I have an Compaq iPAQ 3950
I would like to use it as a GPS in the car, it has no bluetooth
What are my options? what products can a buy to make use of GPS?
Depending on whether that iPaq has a CF or SD slot, you could look for a GPS receiver that plugs in the slot. I think there might have also been a GPS jacket that slips on it. Or, using a serial cable, you could hook an external GPS up. Also, if you get the sleave that adds a PC Card slot, you could get a GPS that fit in that. Make sure it works with the Pocket PC OS though, and not just PC compatible.
I know this type. It is possible to hook up a GPS through the serial port. But it is not such a good model for any GPS type of programming. Would be better to find a 2nd hand Ipaq 2210. Your model does not have the processing power or memory.
Another option to consider is to buy Garmin eTrex for about 100$ their cheapest model...you can use it as a handheld GPS and you can also connect it to your Ipaq-PocketPC by serial or USB cable.
I still use my old Garmin III+, it's old but works great. I paid a lot of money for it when I got it. At the time it was one of the best.
