Sirius to XM
Anyone have any ideas? I have the factory installed Sirius, my free year is up in a few months and I'm considering switching over to XM. I enjoy the playlists much more (on AOL and DirecTV.)
I've seen some converison kits, mainly XM to Sirius, does anyone have any ideas on how to convert Sirius to XM and will it work with the factory radio?
I have a Jeep Compass 2007.
I have Sirius but is it built in your stock radio?
Yeah. For instance if I click mode on the radio it will eventually switch to satellite and then I can change channels, etc. The name of the station appears with the temperature under my speedometer.
You could look on the Crutchfield site and see if they carry an adapter or converter.
Or you could wait and see if the Sirius-XM merger goes through, and then wait for the dual service radios to be released, and the new ala-carte or super programming choices to be available. That's probably 12-16 months away if the merger is approved.
Don't be surprised if Sirius offers you some free or discounted service if you extend your subscription or you mention that your thinking of switching to XM.
I just bought a car with built in XM though I wish it would have sirius. I don't understand why they wouldn't just both broadcast the same content once they merge. You know, instead of 100 channels, they'd have 200 channels. Why would we all want to upgrade our radios? Especially if we have a built in one from factory?

I use Sirius and luv it.
Howard Stern in the mornings make my days start off good 8)
I'm also a stock holder :P
100% of all who go for Sirius are doing it for Howard Stern only, exception is when you buy a car and it comes with factory installed Sirius sat radio...
But apparently more people do NOT like the Howard Stern style, f-word every 5 secs, than those that DO like his show, 7.5 mil subscribers for XM vs 5 mil for Sirius, also the XM stock is way more expensive than the Sirius one...
Personally I love XM, been with XM Canada (now 158 channels) since Christmas '05 and already signed a 3-year contract paid on the very same initial low monthly fee, $12/month, plus a free home kit, don't like Howard Stern at all so no regrets for not getting Sirius at the very beginning...
I have a new truck which has a factory sirius radio. I have an Alpine head unit which is XM ready left over from my previous vehicle. I love the alpine but dont really want to start paying for XM when I have a year of free sirius. Has anyone seen a converter or adapter of some sort that would let me use my Alpine head unit with Sirius?
(looking for options other than just buying one of those standalone sat recievers and connect it to the aux port?)
One of my friends gets the porn channel... odd as hell.
Anyways, yes, they do make kits that let a XM reciever work on HU's made for Sirius and vice versa. Crutchfield is a good place to look for one.
Anyways, my G5 is capable of XM, I just don't have the actual module and antenna, but I'm able to get it put in. All I need is the box for it, and then have the dealer reflash the HU to enable it. I have a Category button, but it does nothing if you're not using XM. I can hit it all day and it says "XM FEATURE".
