Getting excited!

I'm taking deliver of my new (to me) car tomorrow! I got really lucky finding this thing so quickly: black 2002 Honda Accord EX coupe, low mileage, and loaded but with the 4-cylinder and 5-spd manual. Precisely the way I wanted it 8) . It's no muscle car but I'm finally ready to have a little fun after 7 years of practical Volvos. The downside: I'm willing to bet that this is going to attract a little more attention than my Sweedish tanks. My impression is that cops take a much closer look at anything with 2 doors and a spoiler (which is stock...it couldn't be helped).

I'm planning to slap on the laser shield/Veil'd plexi along with the V1 hard-wire by the weekend, followed by Veil on the headlights if weather permits. I have a lot of driving to do in the next few weeks!

You guys with Vettes, Firebirds, Evos, etc probably think I'm nuts but I'm stoked. This is the first car I've bought entirely on my own dime, which I'm kind of proud of. I'm aiming to make this guy last as long as humany possible with as little drama as I can manage...wish me luck! I'll keep everyone posted if I do anything interesting installation-wise with any of the countermeasures.

Hey congrats on the new car. Dont put yourself down or compare to other cars, honda's are actually great cars and if you was ever into modifications, they can be easily and not to expensively upgraded. Why do you think a lot of people buy them? They are reliable, more inexpensive, still fun and its probably the best bang for your buck not being a v8. Let me say they are what most people prefer whether it be a street racer(modified honda) or a casual car for the 4 and 6 cylinder engines. By the way, good choice on the color black . I know alot of people dont like black, hell to be honest i hated black cars but now i absolutely love them, they are a very nice color in all occasions(if washed lol!) and my favorite part.........cops dont look on them as much as other cars and it decreases laser range! Let us know how you enjoy the car, however you may be away from the board quite a while having fun in your new car.

Four cylinder :? but I'm sure that's the only way to get a stickshift when you're buying a car made in Ohio :?

I don't know if the car will garner so much more attention than the ovlov, it's an Accord :!: Just as long as it isn't going "BWAAAAA" like all the rest...

Black Accord coupes of that vintage really looked nice IMO. The front end is a little bland but I love the rear 3/4.

No coffee can exhaust pipes will be going near this car! Or anything else that looks/sounds silly like spinners or rice-wings. I'm looking forward to tearing into the audio system, though. That's the one thing that I've modified on every car I've owned to date.

The four-cylinder really isn't that bad when you are already used to a car with about the same power to weight ratio. (Maybe a little less, even.) Though I would have preferred a '05 V6 with the six-speed, that's way out of my price range. Besides, with gas prices the way they are I'll take the extra few MPG. If it stands up to the Honda reputation for reliability this really is the ideal car for me right now. Only 9 hours to go 8) .

Brick, I see you are going to tear into the sound styem as well.
If you are into sound systems like you are radar detectors you probably know about these products already, but if you do not this might get you into spending more money on hobbies

If you really want to help the system and help with road noise you might look at some of the sound deadening material such as Fat Mat or Dynamat, I would NOT recommend Dynamat due to the cost.

They also make a liquid version of sound deadner called quiet car and this beats any of the mats hands down.

Also for anybody else who is interested quieting the road noise take a look at some of these products.

This is another hobby I like doing is to see how quiet my car can be on the inside.
The results are amazing!!

Nice car Brick! Sure it's not a muscle car but Accords are reliable and practical and look nice too! Good choice on the color too.

And if you ever think to yourself down the road that you got a "blah" car, hey, it's nicer than my car!

And you're like me, the first thing I'll do when I get a new car is install my countermeasures too! Right now, just a stealth mounted V1, but I'm sure there'll be more down the road since I discovered this site! :!:

Hey, don't base what you think is a good car on other peoples' opinions (you down with OPO?). That goes for anything you deem valuable. Pick out what you want, for your reasons, and you'll be a happy man.

That's an intriguing suggestion. I've never added sound deadeners before but I might just consider it. Do they add significant weight to the car? I imagine placement is the key to good results. If you can point me in the direction of a good forum or other information sources I'd like to take a look.

Over the next 6 months or so I'm going to replace the head unit (probably stick with Alpine since I loved my last one), speakers (stockers are all lows), and get my SkyFi neatly tucked away. I love projects.

They do add some weight but it is minimal, I have not really found a good forum for sound deadening. You can do a search for it and you will find some forums that talk about it in general.

I will PM you some sites of manufactures since I can not post links here.
I have used about all of them and the car quiet that I recommended is the best that I have used.
The paint on type is a little harder if you are working above you, but if not it so much easier on your hands and fingers beacuse you do not have to push down and put pressue on the mats to make them stick.
In the long run depending on how much you do in the car the mat type is more expensive.

For starters if you want to try it out, put some on the inside of your doors and in the trunk/hatchback.
To get the full effect you really need to pull out the whole interior and do the whole car. More layers you put on the quieter it will be.

You will be amazed how quiet you car will become and your system will sound louder at lower volumes and your sound will be better.
Stick with the Alpine head unit you can not go wrong there!
I use the Skyfi as well but I would love to have the portable mp3 version as well.
