    Default Astro Vans

Quick question. Are the astro vans with high-tops custom? In a year or two I would like to buy a nice van.

I have a 96 astro conversion van awd. They come in two favors conversion van and high top conversion. The only difference between the two are. The high tops you can kinda walk around in. Plus they come with a tv/vcr for the passengers to watch. Other then that their the same.

AWD is nice in the snow. But gets crappy gas mileage. I get 13 mpg in town and highway. Doesnt matter if you going 30 mph or 75 mph. I would try and find a RWD astro you might get 15-17mpg. Astro's are 5800lbs and come with a 4.3 vortec V8 220hp?

You can adds mods like intake/headers/exhaust etc. Which would improve gas mileage. I havent done any yet but. I plan on doing something soon!

I drive mine in the winter. Getting 13mpg makes me sad. But it will change. I prefer the 96+!

Do yourself a favor, don't buy one.

I had the misfortune of renting an astrovan once for a drive from cleveland to DC.... it handled like an oil tanker.

They weigh 5800lbs. They arnt cruisers. Speeds over 70mph not recommend. I live in a snowy state so I love mine. Astros are nice if you need awd and need to haul the family around in snow.

If you live where theres no snow. Dont buy one its a waste!
