the powerstroke are sucking to much diesel these days even the new ones, ive had my cummins since 05 and its awsome, before i put 295 70 17 tires i got 21 hwy and 16 - 17 city, a friend switch hes ford for a cummins, i also have and 02 cummins with 160000 miles and havent had any problems with it and its a farm truck.
My brother had a Dodge 3500 with the Cummins, awesome motor. he got 235,000 out of it and sold it, the guy who bought it has over 350,000 on it and still going strong. The secret to the Cummins 5.9 being so durable is the fact that it was made originally to be used 24/7 in oil drilling stations. Once they got turned on, they would literally run for months at a time.
The OLD powerstrokes (7.3 turbo) were equally as impressive, absolute powerhouses. My uncle has one with 225,00 on it, still runs like new.
On the other hand the Powerstroke 6.0s and the new 6.4s???? The 6.0 was JUNK, I knew someone who bought four F450s and two broke down before he got them to his business. Alot of cylinder problems. The new 6.4 is just that, new. Be VARY wary of it for at least 2-3 years.
I drove one truck with the Duramax. It was ok, I didn't dislike it or like it really. Supposedly they are also good motors.
7.3 FTW!
The general consensus I keep on hearing for the perfect diesel truck is: Cummins engine, Ford body, Allison gearbox.
Apparently the older Cummins motors were real powerhouses. But the 7.3 is really reliable as well.
The only difference between the "older" Cummins motors and the "newer" ones is that the old were 12 valve designs, and the new is 24 valves.
As far as modifying a diesel, the Cummins and the Duramax have alot more aftermarket options available. The new Powerstroke is too new for mods yet.
Duramax, I mean, dura MAX this should be self-explanatory

As for Cummins, well...
Aren't the top-end Ford trucks rated for like 60% higher towing capacity than the top-end Dodges and Chevys? It's some ridiculously high number like that.Originally Posted by ELVATO
Why can't Dodge just build everything everything with huge-ass parts like Ford? Or Ford use a Cummins like Dodge
Dodge still has better fuel eficency..... ford might have more towning capacity but they suck more fuel ie he wants more reliable(dodge), fuel eficency(dodge),mods (dodge)
Yeah but it's power strokingOriginally Posted by ELVATO
