dumps for the exaust
i have everything i have in my sig and i used to have it without the tail pipes. i just had another stang drive by me with almost the same setup and it made me miss the sound of my car when i had the dumps on it. it just has a very throaty sound and is just bada$$. my huge dilema is i get pulled over everyother day for sound and i have a 40 min commute everyday and i do want to retain my hearing. i havent put in the dynamat yet since im stripping down my car in a few weeks, and i dont feel like wasting my money re-doing the sound deadner ripping it out. i just love the sound of the car as it sounds like it going to rip your head right off and take one nasty ****e down your neck. what should i do?
the way it sounded originally

Hm.
One weekend in the race car when it had straight pipes caused my dad a bit of permanent hearing damage...and that's a 3.0 straight four...and yours is bigger than that...
...on the other hand, it didn't bother me at all. So I guess it's important how sensitive your ears are.
As far as the cops...hmm...you COULD install an exhaust system with a dump switch, so that you can quiet it down when you're in a "heavily patrolled" area and then open it up on the emptier roads...but that of course doesn't give you the weight savings...

i work on open header cars all the time so im used to load cars. i worked at a gingeman raceway and have heard about everything. im just worried about it being prolonged in the car. and believe it or not im not worried about weight savings in the rear of the car. fox body stangs are light in the rear end and adding the sound deadner will be a little balast i can use. it may not be adjustible, but it will be dual purpose.
but like i said, i and going to be completely stripping the car (either acid dip or media blast...not sure whick route i want to go yet) and i dont want to waste the deadner. plus i will be installing lca re-enforcements, new sub-frame connectors and some mini tubs within the next two weeks. plus i know when i install the watts link in the rear i have to cut up the spare tire well, and weld a new piece in place

Old Timer
Hard call to make.
I love louder cars (well, as long as it's not a Honduh-esque drone - and I say this with no offense to Hondas or their owners/enthusiasts, as I personally love Hondas/Acuras; it's just the ricers with their bad exhausts that I have a problem with)....
But yep, having driven loud cars before, yeah, getting the evil-eye from enforcers isn't something that ranks very high on my list, at all.

its not that its just "loud" it just reverberates and has a real bassy tone that makes it seem loud. i can pull away from a stop light and get up to speed without making a ton of noise, its just the ground trembling that eveyone really notices. i hadnt experimented with angling the dumps to tone it down a little...yet. it will make your chest have the rumbling bass that will make your heart skip a beat....
now when i get on it and it opens up, it can honestly be heard for a couple miles on a quiet night. (literally, my dad heard it 1 1/2 mile away when i nailed it from a stop light, and there were hills in the way)

Those are really nice... When i first boosted my car i have a 3" Downpipe coming off the turbo and went straight down. If it was not loud enough the echo'ing from the ground sure as hell made it loud. It sounded like a semi

In that case you should install a full exhaust system...resonator, muffler, everything...and then have a dump switch so you can make it as quiet as you want around town, have a little ballast in back, and then open it up right at the exhaust manifold whenever you want.

I looked into the electric exhaust cutouts but they all eventually leak over time.

unfortunately that is the issue i had read into. i would only use it right after the down pipe on the turbo that way i only have one to deal with, and have it for use at the track.

actually, the only things i have are flowmasters. everything is free flow to the rear (headers, no cat x-pipe, and then the muffs)
