Default Plan on buying a new ride in a year or so...suggestions?

Here are my choices: (I'm looking for solid performance as well as comfort)
    - Honda Accord EX-v6
    - VW GLI
    - BMW 335 XI
    -Audi A4

I'm leaning more toward the Accord Ex V6 for the following factors:

raw amount of power for the price: (under 30k) (268 Horses!!!)
-with a couple of relatively inexpensive mods i can up the horsepower and gain some torque
    -solid build quality
-i think i can get the most out of this vehicle especially for the price...

welcome to any and all suggestions and opinions...

Audi or the Bimmer, AWD would be nice for a Cleveland winter. I'm scared ****less of snow in my car.

i was thinking about getting another GLI, AND DOING Exactly that! Im giving my old gli to my cousin he needs a car, so im donating it to him in about a year....but the cleveland winters dont scare me at all anymore...im used to it....even though the awd would be nice...im comfortable in a car as long as it is front wheel drive...

    REB -

Although I'm now a devoted AWDriver, I can honestly say that as long as JDM lives in the Metro area, and doesn't have to commute during the off-hours before/after roadway maintenance could be a problem - then he should truly be just fine with a FWD passenger sedan, provided that he keeps reasonable ground-clearance and a good eye on the standard-issue All-Seasons.

Put some Performance-Winters or even Studless Ice-and-Snows on there, and they can actually well drive circles ( intentionally! :P ) around AWD vehicles fitted with even winter-biased All-Seasons.

Whoa....that's some price gap you've got going on there.

Exactly how much power are you looking to crank out of the little Honda with mods, and is it going to be anywhere worth the money (and potential trouble) to do so? Why not just keep her stock, and invest in some good tires (and pretty rims) for our seasonal changes, and countermeasures (since she ain't exactly slow to begin with), too?

It might be 268 horses (at the crank) from the factory, but even with over 300 AT THE WHEELS, I can tell you from experience that trying to get the hole-shot on AWD vehicles with considerably less power is just a losing proposition, as the Accord is "Wrong Wheel Drive." [ Please don't think I'm making fun of the Honda, here. I still have a 300 wHP Talon TSi, with fully supported EvoIII 16G, in my garage - she's a front driver, so I well know what a bit of snow/slush, or even rain, can do to my street starts - and trust me, those "crank" 268 horses?" on the dyno that I use to get my cars tuned, those cars would more than likely not even break the 200 mark. I'm speaking from my heart, here, and not at all making fun of you or belittling you. ]

Honestly, I'd ditch the thought of hot-rodding the Accord. Trust me, you can find much, much better platforms (I hate to sound biased, but take a look at what a mildly modified BL/BP-chassis Subaru Legacy can do, if you find that you simply *must* mod). The Accord is a very, very nice and capable vehicle in its own right - with excellent gas-mileage, too. If I bought one, I'd see no reason to try to milk just a few more horses out of her, at the expense of a few hundreds of dollars that could be much better spent elsewhere.

If your budget is really that high, I'd be hard pressed NOT to get the BMW or the Audi, particularly if you can keep them stock, and not have to worry about warranty issues.

As others have said, this would only be a good choice if you're going to be satisfied with the car as-is. Modifying a naturally aspirated Honda really isn't worth it in your situation.

Comfort yes, solid performance, no. MkII 2.0 16v GLIs are slow. MkIV 24v VR6 GLIs sound nice, but really aren't performers. MkIV 1.8T GLIs (like mine) are only slightly sportier, although they require a reflash to utilize much of their power. MkV GLIs have an excellent engine (even more severely detuned though, so again budget $500 for a reflash), but they are heavy ugly FWD whale cars. Here's my VWVortex signature:

If you can afford it, you'd be a dumbass not to jump on it. This is really the perfect car for your situation. It has the best engine of the bunch, in fact one of my favorite engines ever, it is actually FASTER than the RWD version, and it looks great. It will run through the twisties better than anything in this list, it will even put the quattro A4 to shame.

Maybe not as kickass as the 335Xi, but you still can't go wrong with this one, particularly assuming you get the quattro version.
