Default Thank God for Alert motorists!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Driving back from the Hamptons from a Sailing event, my car was making f a weird noise and it seemed to be driving ok so I contiued at a slow rate of speed...Then all the sudden a guy was waving at me and pointing at my front wheel. Immediately I pulled over and called AAA and then waited the 1.5 hour for a tow truck car was loaded up on the tow truck alright and then went to my garage. By the time we got to the garage the front wheel was holding on by ONE LUG NUT!!!!   And it was bent out like a mother. The tow truck guy couldn't have been more concerned about getting my car off with out hurting any of the body. He kept saying body damnage is horrible mechanical can be fixed.(I of course know this after two car accidents) So we ended up pushing the car of the flat bed due to the front driver wheel not even moving.

Then I got a ride home from parent to get some bricks to jack my car up so there was no weight on that wheel. I can't wait to see the bill on this one..and i just had the car tuned up :x Also my mother waited until now that she drove threw a big pot hole with my car when i let her borrow it. If this is the one of the reasons that sped up my ball joint breaking she is not touching my car again. I already had to have the window switched replaced due to it breaking when she drove my car in phili every time she drives my car something goes wrong

    (Pics will be posted tomorrow)

    I know how you feel...

on my 1990 900t, I tried to remove the right front wheel so I could put on some new rims I snagged off a wrecked Ford Fucus (don't fit wortha damn :x ) anyway, the yahoo who put the rim on used an impact wrench for sure. Casualties? My factory lug wrench, snapped. The toe got completely screwed - with the steering straight, I have right wheel straight but the *left* was going left about 15 degrees

That is why I NEVER let anyone work on my car!

Or the time a few weeks ago, lost three lug nuts and studs on a Pontiac Grand Prix while going down the 87, I was stuck in Saratoga with only three wheels mounted to the car  Spent a few good hours frying in the morning sun trying to find a NAPA to get some studs, then installing them... royal pain in the ass.

Turns out they think they forgot to tighten the lug nuts and they caused the problem they were extremely nice about it and now he wants to re align the car and fix the car to me no cost to me... Who ever put the wheel back on my car is in major trouble the garage ownera personal family friend was really sorry about the mistake

    here are the pics

Nope nothing broke except the added weight of the car siting on the tow truck made all the lugs except 1 pop off on the ride to my garage...All the lugs were on when i got on the tow truck and only 1 was on when i got to the garage. tilt of the wheel is exsaggerated more when the car is jacked up...it's wasn't as bad when before it was jacked up I have those pics on my cell

    Default You'd be suprised...............

It happens ALL the time. I've had three nearly come off.
Brother had one fly past him and my student took the approach that his buddy was gonna torque them down, I won the bet, five loose lug nuts.......

Buy a torque wrench and dedicated socket for your car.
Any vibration in the wheels, check the lugs.
Wheel bearing sound when turning? Check the lugs.....

    SO simple......SO COMMON.

BTW: those bricks cutting into your CV boots?

It's funny, you can also overtighten some lugs making them snap off while on the road. But yes, this is WAY too common to have them loose. Glad nobody was hurt. I put the lugs on in about five steps. Tighten crisscross and repeat over and over. I have a couple torque wrenches, I rarely ever use them on the lugs. I always tend to overtighten by hand (without the torque wrench) so I guess I should use it. I like the fact that the VW's have the center post to center the wheel.

Actually the top speed of my car, as I calculated according to the tacho is somewhere around 220km/h, maybe 225 or 219 but around there - so around 140mi/h.
