Well, I am considering buying some straight pipes for my car. Naturally, I want to get an idea of how it would sound, so i took my mufflers out after dinner. Tonight I did some driving around, and bottom line is it's awesome.
The problem is that the person I was going to buy the straight pipes from isn't going to give them up until he get his side exhaust set up. They're also stock tips (3").
Option two is to go to an exhaust shop and just get straight pipes made with some bigger tips, probably run about $75 more than if I waited for the guy above.
(my friends car, 4 1/2" tips)
Option three is to do nothing, and run around with no tips even though my car has clear spots for them to come out:
So, how ghetto is it to go with option three? Also how long do you give it before the cops come after me (My city gave out the most tickets in IL last year).
Nice tires...not only to GS-D3s work great, they also LOOK great
Anyway, straight pipes are very cool...but option three is just too ghetto. One and two really aren't going to make any difference, I can barely tell them apart. Don't worry about having a large exhaust tip, it's just not important.

IMO the problem without running the pipes, is that the hot exhaust gases can cause problems when they are not exiting at the end of the car...
The classical example is going into the cabin but this is unlikely to be an issue on a newer no-rust car (unless you have windows open and stopped)
But there are other things, like various rubber and plastic components under the car, that can get melted or otherwise screwed up.
Also if you have no rear pipes, they can't support the rest of the exhaust, depending if the hangars can handle it.
Also straight pipes sound cool but don't necessarily flow well... the exhaust usually is made to act like a kind of Helmholtz resonator to make the engine breathe better, straight pipes that might put the "resonance speed" higher or lower, which could be an advantage to you or not. Or it could make the speed like 10000 r/min and that would hurt power... then again mufflers usually drop some...
Also the ticket problem exists. Now you may be lucky since in my neck of the woods they LOVE to give out tickets for the exhausts, but I've only ever heard of people with "rice cars" usually JDM's or the Civics that make the farting noises. The sound of a big V8 is usually much more agreeable and you might be able to squeak by. BUT maybe not!
I do plan on rectifying this at some point. I tried going to the shop today but they're only open 8-6 Weekdays so I'll stop in tomorrow after work. Only problem is I don't want to give up my car for a long time, so I'm not sure if I give them the stock mufflers they can do it without my car.
As for the flow thing SmartAssSaab said, I still have everything else in there, so the resonators should be taking care of the resonance thing.
Nice tires...not only to GS-D3s work great, they also LOOK great
Come on JDS, I know you're smarter than that. (You don't drive a Civic with a fart can on it, do you?)
Wheels right, the "internal part" of the visible wheel end?. Tires are the rubber part around the wheel.

235/40/18 all around
33 psi up front
39 psi out back (strange, but door panel says so)
Have 6k miles on them, I rotate every 3k.
Got a 2.016 60' with them.
The day they were delivered, brings a tear to my eye.
I stand correctly. COMPLETELY 'nix my previous post. Maybe its my eyesight, but how the hell did you pick that out JDS? Is it written some where?
(Personally run some Eagle F1's. I'll probably pick a different manufacturer next time.)

What are your wheel specs? I'm running 225/40/18 on 18x7.5s.

That's what the door panel says for proper inflation, not maximum inflation?
Hm. Odd. I used to run about 32 front 36 rear for the racetrack when I had no rear sway bar and hence was trying to encourage the car to rotate more...but for the street I generally run 34 front AND back.

Awww...
I remember when I got a fresh set recently. I just ran my fingers over the tread pattern, so nice...I almost didn't want to put them on the car

The tread pattern is extremely distinctive. I'd recognize it anywhere.

The GS-D3 is a version of the Eagle F1 (which is just a name that covers a wide variety of Goodyear tires). Which version do you have?
