Scion's are Toyota's line for the younger generation, just as Lexus' are for their 'luxury' customers. They don't have gobs of power, and weren't ever meant to. I do agree though that people rice them out and think adding a few stickers, tint, and flames makes them faster. They should have probably looked somewhere else for power and acceleration.

^^ Which is why I waited until they plopped in the 200hp/205lb/ft turbo charged direct injected 20 valve 2.0 in the GTI.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bagging on Scions. I mean sure, I hate them, but I hate them exactly the same as I hate every other Toyota, whether it wears the Scion, Toyota, or Lexus badge.
I just think it's ridiculous that this ad celebrates exactly what they've been pushing as the entire "purpose" of their brand for the last couple years...while, at the bottom of the screen, completely disowning it

As for the 108 horsepower engine, I suppose that's not so bad compared to the venerable "2.SLOW" 110 horsepower 2.0 that they were putting into VWs all the way through 2005
I hate that engine and I don't even know why it sucks so much... it isn't the 110 horsepower... back in the Mk III days in Canada we had the base Golf/Jetta CL and they had 1,8 litre / 90 hp (basically the Mk I GTI engine with a single fuel injector instead of carb). But the 1,8 was more responsive and more fun than the 2,0 engine in GL.
Now we have "City" Golf/Jetta that are just Mk IV with new lights, actually look better than the Mk V cars but they only come in 2,slow
I don't get the point of Scion... Is it a ricer car for people who can afford new cars?

I don't get the point of putting a fart can on an 100 horsepower civic....

Oddly enough, they're also selling City Jettas (but not Golfs) with 1.8Ts SOMEWHERE, maybe it's Mexico. We're pretty happy because they have a vented fender liner, so we don't have to buy Audi TT fender liners, cut out the vents, and graft them into our own fender liners anymore (or in my case, cut out a hole in the shape of the intercooler and cover it with mesh).
Also, they're selling them with the 5-speed Tiptronic...aren't the Canadian City Jettas 4ATX only?

That one's easy: Something like 80 - 90% of the Mustangs that Ford sells are V6 models. The Mustang is really a secretary's car, and they need a model at the low end of the range so that secretaries can afford them.
