Default Oil Filters, Exposed (Literally!)

A few weeks ago I did my 25,000 mile oil change and, on a whim, I picked up the Mobil 1 oil filter with my Mobil 1 oil. I'd used a Fram filter the previous couple of times.

Last night I saw a link to this Engine Oil Filter Study. Having read it, I'm never touching a Fram filter again...ESPECIALLY since some of them actually have Teflon powder in them! I'm sticking with the Mobil 1 filter, synthetic filtration for synthetic oil

After 3 years marketing for Shell/QuakerState/Pennzoil, the stuff I could tell you about Mobile One but can't because I'm still under the gag umbrella.

Let's just say Mobile One ownes more lube patents than you thought was possible. So everyone else has to come up with dicey alternatives to match performance.

M1 is the best and probably will be for a long time.

This isn't really about oil, it's about FILTERS, which (at least according to everything I know, including that study I linked to) has absolutely nothing to do with ExxonMobil (the study claims that the Mobil1 filter in particular is manufactured by Champion).

But yes, my car has always lived on Mobil1 0W-40.

Mobil1 as well, I think it's 5W-30 (I'll check later).

Default Re: Oil Filters, Exposed (Literally!)

let's not get into the debate about the oils themselves, because many can be Group III and Group IV blends

anyway, they don't make mobil1 filters for my car, so i went with another great alternative, PUROLATOR!

and the purolator alternative, PROLINE!

BTW, i use Castrol Syntec 5w-50, because that's the closest i can find on the shelf that matches the dealer oil, Castrol TWS 10w-60!

Ah the good old minimopar site what is it doing out there?

I've cut several old filters apart, it's interesting once you get in there

I find M1 filters a total waste of $$$, the "regular one that isn't Fram" is typically quite good (usually made by Dana or Purolator)

I've heard the Fram filters have improved markedly in recent years. Back in the day it was pretty normal on most cars with the Fram to make valvetrain noise on startup, but with other filter would be quiet... why the Fram silly anti-drainback valve that seals against nothing didn't work.

I use the Motorcraft one that fits the Expy. They're actually supposed to be pretty good, from what I hear, especially for being 3-4 bucks.
