You'd be surprised how many diesel pickup trucks I've been challenged by. I'm driving a Cayman S. It's not the most powerful or fastest car out there, but lay into it and it definitely scoots. Let it roll up top, and you will see 170+. I'm carrying less than 10 lbs per horsepower. For a 6,500 lb truck to run with me, they'll need more than 650 hp. I know there are some out there with that, but please come on, a pickup truck....?
.
dont under estimate us Diesels!!! weve got it packin and you wouldnt know!

Yeah but what happens when you have to slow down and go around a corner.

Yeah, I'm aware that with the proper mods those things can spit out 1,000 horsepower. But I haven't encountered any of those yet. I suspect that the few I've come across have had an ECU tune that has pushed their boost up, probably making them a lot faster than stock, but still not fast enough to out run my CS which will get to 60 in 4.8 seconds and through the 1/4 mile in 13.2 (if driven right of course).
At 6,500 lbs, they would need 650 hp to match my power to weight ratio. But in reality, a 6,500 lb truck would need more like 750-800 hp to overcome not only it's mass, but it's rotational loss. All are automatic shift, which absorbs a lot of power, and with just the rear wheel pushing, a 650 hp engine would simply smoke the rear tires, so they would need 4 wheel drive, adding more rotational friction and power loss. Then there is also the factor of aerodynamic drag, which is huge on those full size pickups, compared to a Cayman's very slippert 0.28 cd multiplied by it's tiny frontal area. That's why I estimate it would take 750-800 hp in a truck to outrun a 300 hp sports car. On the highway, above 65 mph, I don't think you could put enough power in a pickup to make it keep up.

Could be, but that truck and the Viper still crossed the 1/4 mile in 11 seconds.... Wow...!

WOW you can read the brochure..jk.......... i agree that after 100mph you would pull away, at least i would hope so, but up to you can be hung with by some diesels even beat'n

Understood.... I know that great things are possible with diesels, especially when turbos are involved.
Not quoting the brochure. More speaking from experience. I track the car and I've run away from some very powerful cars from 100 up. Cars that I did not expect to get away from. (A modified Bullitt Mustang and a Challenger SRT-8). I've also spent a couple of weeks ripping up the German autobahn. Cruising at 165 mph is spine tingling... The Cayman S starts to really battle the wind at about 150 mph. From there on up it picks up speed at a noticably slower rate. But up to 150, it just cuts through the air.
The problem is to do 11's in a truck you have to spend a fair amount of money. Look at the mods in the vid......
Twin turbos, cam, fuel contoroller, Nitrous, built transmission, etc. $$$$$
You could do that to any car and make it faster than a viper.
