You could end up rapidly building up a loyal customer base who will only talk to you and purchase from you. Do they offer commissions?

That's how I find the staff at most of these places, too.

Some are fellow "car guys/car gals," and some do have very specialized knowledge - but most are just helpful people, and rely on their computer database.

I don't think that's all that bad - at least, like you said, they don't sell you the wrong stuff!

I would be hesitant to work somewhere that I am the smartest guy. You wouldn't learn a thing and would most likely get frustrated fast.

Just the customer interaction and being around parts all day would be fun I think. If he is a big motorhead like he says he is, then it should get him by.

I don't see why not. You get a discount, you like anything automotive so it won't really be "working", and you get exposure to side jobs if you can work on cars. Most of the time I walk in there the workers are just shooting the breeze.

I went into Autozone and picked up some brake pads. I watched as the guy looked them up and asked me Durabrand x or Y? I noted the part number on the screen for the one I picked and he returned with the wrong one at the register. I corrected him and he was but coudnt say anything cause he was wrong. Quickly went back and brought me the correct part number. I was thinking of this thread, Autozone could use your help, Quickly pls sir.
