What percentage of people drive manual transmissions?

I do too, but I was wondering if I was correct in assuming that the majority of people drive automatic...since we're lazy Americans and everything. Most people probably don't have a free hand to drive standard because one is holding a cell phone to their ear.

    Learned on automatic.

Bought a manual then figured out how to drive it.

I still have that car, but I just picked up one that has an automatic with the up and down stick. Used car shoppers can't be too picky. Manual control is really nice to have for the corners and on ramps, but the torque converter still sucks some of the life out of it. I can make it run at the same RPM in 5th or 6th gear at lower speeds because of the torque converter slipping

I think that's what a lot of people don't like about autos - the "motorboat" feeling of the engine going faster but the car not going at the same time.

Most of my cars have been standard. Now I have an SMG. Sequential Manual Gearbox. It's a 6 spd standard with a computer activated clutch. No pedal. Lots of fun.

My Volvo is automatic, and thank god with all the driving I do in traffic

    The vehicle(Toyota T100 w/ SR5 off-road package) I drive when I am at my parents house is a manual...

I love driving manual transmissions around town but when I am driving through mid-town manhattan and stuck in a NYC traffic jam I perfer automatic

In the world or on this forum?

Everyone here likes to speed and considers driving to be an experience (not just a means from A to B)... this will be a very biased population.

    P.S. I drive a manual!
