In defense of stealth...

Although not Genetically pre-dispositioned, studies HAVE shown that females do have a less-than-average perception of distance, turning radius, and position forcasting. It is not out of the realm of realism that Stealth want to protect HIS investment from this phenomenon. Stealth, I have no experience with parking sensors but I would make one suggestion. Invest in a parking sensor/laser jammer combo. She doesn't need to know it's a laser jammer and it'll save you from the increased insurance fees.

P.S. That style mustang is an awkward vehicle anyway. It has an exceptionally long nose with a faded droop. Many girls can't manage to park their cute little VW Bug, i'm not sure why you guys are hassleing him for his precautions.

Hey JDS, you are really enjoying this post

Come on guys she just learning how to walk.... She is alittle too young for anyone of us

stealthfz1 - we are just messing around with you. I would go w/ what JDS said - Laser Pro Park . Don't give her the keys if she can't park w/o the sensors.

I didn't know parking was something you were even supposed to teach...

You have a brake pedal. If you are going to hit something, stop, backup, and try again. I see your point from a financial standpoint, but if the girl cannot handle parking, I hope you live in a place with very little traffic because you probably have more to worry about than an accident in the parking lot.

She's just learning to DRIVE, not walk. Which means she's EXACTLY young enough for me

And yes. I'm enjoying this post. I enjoy most things involving 15 year old girls

All joking aside...if you want to get her a parking sensor, might as well get a combination parking sensor/laser jammer. But...really, we understand that you don't want her to damage the car, but honestly, there's no reason she can't park a car without running into things. We all did it, she can too.

Your money would be better spent on a driving course (a real one, not drivers ed). Then she won't crash in the parking lot, or more importantly out on the road with other moving objects.

On the serious side:
Costco, Sams, Wallyworld I have seen the $100 wireless camera setups. Many of them mount on license plate like a frame so no drilling. This would give her an actual view of what is there with distance. Some vehicles it's REAL hard to tell how close you are and also effected by person's height.

"In October 2005, “Consumer Reports” measured the blind spots — the spaces behind a car, van or SUV that a driver can’t see — for the Honda Accord, Dodge Grand Caravan, Toyota Sequoia, and the Chevrolet Avalanche, using toddler-high traffic cones.

The results were eye-popping. The blind spots ranged from about 12 feet behind the sedan for a person of normal height (17 feet for a shorter driver) to about 51 feet for a shorter driver behind the biggest vehicle, the Avalanche."
The Villages Daily Sun

I can tell you that I was able to put my Corolla within 2 inches of bumpers/cones etc front and back. My Sonata I swear i'm close but am like 2 feet away just because of drop off. My Sequoia (see above) with me backing it up (my wife is 6 inches shorter) at 15 feet backing into my driveway all you see is the roof line of my Sonata (was the same for my Corolla) I added the Rostra obstacle sensing system Rostra Precision Controls, Inc. - Automotive/Consumer Products - Rostra Obstacle Sensing System to the Sequoia. It mounts BEHIND the bumper cover so you see nothing and no holes. Beeps as you get closer (like an RD signal strength) AND the LED's change from green to yellow to red. I mounted the LED's above the back window. While looking backwards, you hear the beeps and see the LED's. By her own admission in the first week it saved her twice from backing into something low. System was $300 installed at the time, insurance deductible was $500 if she hit something. At about 1 foot it goes to solid tone. Great investment IMO for the safety side nevermind care of vehicle. I've been backing up when the kids were out playing and I can see them 20 feet away. All of a sudden the alert starts beeping so I stop quick. It turned out to only be the basketball that rolled but how fast do the kids chase after it?

Thanks for all your help. I don't mind the ribbing.

We have neighbors that don't watch their 5 kids very will. We have heard/found them wandering around our back yard unattended. I've even seen them wandering alone in the street. Really would be a catastrophe if one of the was backed over.

I really like the Laser jammer/parking sensor idea but quite a bit more $$ than I can spend right now. I still have to get her a RD too!

I HATE it when parents do that.
