Not true nationwide. Many departments around Texas do not equip all of their cars with cameras. But there are certainly areas where it is the norm. Your area may be one, but I don't know. But again, no, not all cop cars have cameras.

I agree with Stealth, this is simply no the case. Some cop cars are not equipped with cameras. Also, some of the ones that are equipped only begin to record when the emergency lights are on. And to take it a step further, some record audio while others have audio disabled.

Some departments put them in most of their cars, some put them in a couple, some put them in none and there's probably a few that have them in all...some are even expanding them so that moto officers have helmet cams now.
Some are always on some aren't on unless the lights are on some aren't on unless the officer turns it on....some wont record a thing unless the officer has a tape in a VCR in the trunk, some send the video back to dispatch wirelessly and are recorded there and viewable live by supervisors.
Some don't to any audio, some have imbeded radar readings audio video and markings to show what portion of the officers equipment (lights sirens vehicle lights etc) are in operation.
It's basically just as if not more diverse than the selection of cameras being run by enthusiasts on this board, because yes some are even just handycams suction cupped to the dashboard.

I've noticed the departments with more revenue are more likely to have cameras.
Correction: I didn't mean the above as the departments who write more tickets are more likely to have cameras. I've noticed departments in high end areas all have cameras in car.
