Default Tyres? Proxes or.....

Need some new on the front and was looking at the Proxes T1R. They seem a good price and come In the exact same size as what's on now but there are alot of mixed reviews. Some rave about them while others slate them no end. Anyone tried them or recomend some other 185/55/r15".
Cheers,

Totally depends on your vehicle and type of driving. From the size and profile of that tire, I'm assuming your vehicle is a fwd Honda or Toyota. Most that I know who use those tires say they're fine for daily driving with a mix of semi-aggressive driving. I don't personally know how they perform because those of us who prefer AWD generally select a better tire.

I forget PMOTH, do you have a quattro?

I'm going to test drive a new A4 2.0 quattro this weekend.

It's a FWD renault clio. Type of driving... Mainly daily driving but I like to test the car abit. These fronts have lasted under 12k miles and when I had the car It had about 5k on the clock and the tyres were practically new. There prem contacts on now and the wet grip whislt Isn't bad leaves alot to be desired when pushed. Dry grip was fine. I'd feel the suspension would let me know when I needed to ease up rather than the tyres letting go. There not on the TWI and there allready squirming when pushed. I was after FK452's (but they don't do them In under 16") or rainsport 2's but they are a different size to what's on now (and also more expensive than the T1R's).

FK452s are ricer tires.

I'd spring for a set of GOOD tires. You don't even have to spend a lot, and you'll appreciate the difference. For example, Tire Rack has Yokohama S.drives available in your size for only $75 apiece, which should help with the wet traction a lot (you should even feel the extra dry traction, too).

I don't know if Tirerack will deliver to the UK though. But if you look around for a good deal I'm sure you can find something better than "budget" tires.

Ricer tyres JDS? Only reason I was looking at those and the RS2's Is they come up alot on searches and have had very good reviews. I'm not worried about price, At the end of the day the rubber Is all that hold me and the car on the road but If the T1R's are a good tyre and cheap then all the better.

Just had a look at the s-drives. There a good price over you side of the pond but at around $100 a corner from our retailers. The reviews don't seem too good either Yokohama S Drive at tyre reviews - the online tyre guide

They're particularly popular for "stretching", that is, taking advantage of their weak sidewalls to force narrow tires to mount onto wide wheels. It's supposed to look cool or something.

Well if you're not worried about price I'd suggest a Pirelli PZero or Goodyear Eagle F1, if you can find them in your size. Maybe a Yokohama A048.

That's odd, Tire Rack gave them a 98% rating.

ive got the goodyear eagle f1's on the 08 eclipse gt. Love them. the grip like no other. i dont rice around, i like to take corners and squeeze between traffic sometimes. the eclipse is FWD also and the only thing agianst the setup is, i can still peel out and spin the front tires, if i get too excited. other than that they are great. wet grip is 7 out of 10. overall i'd rate them 9 out of 10..

I don't know anything about the T1Rs but I know Toyo makes good tires. I have Proxes4 on my car currently and their wet/dry handling is excellent.

Have you tried: Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels ?

Tyre rack seems to be US orientated were as that review site has a mix on. perhaps In our harsher weather they don't hold up as well. Who knows. Those Yoko's look more suited to track days to me? Plenty of rubber on the ground but for all weather and everyday driving. I've heard good stuff about the eagle F1's so will check those out. Which ones do you have progress? The aysometric or GSD3? The aysometric seem to get better reviews than the GSD3 from what little I've read on them, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric at tyre reviews - the online tyre guide

That's the thing Progress. Alot of the reviews are saying the older version of the proxes were much better than the T1Rs. For the price I'm tempted to try them out for myself but don't to be buying a pile of **** and find out the hard way. Toyo T1R at tyre reviews - the online tyre guide
