I'm not going to get too excited about a mere rumor. There have been rumors in the past about a mid-engine design or a 6-cylinder design which never actually came true.

OTOH, if the C8 does come out with a 6 cylinder, my C6 with a V8 just became a hell of a lot more valuable.

Agreed, I know these are just words here....but the mere fact that GM in considering putting a V6 TURBO in an AMERICAN V8 ICON is kind of an outrage....All the GM luxury cars will no longer have the V8 option either....starting 2011. Same is for Cadillac, the only way to get a V8 is if you opt for the V package or purchase the XLR base which has the Northstar....They are killing the Northstar engine, and only offering the 3.6 fuel injection 6 cylinder which is outdated honestly. There is no replacement for displacement. Im just appalled at what GM has been doing lately, im all for economical vehicles, but c'mon... I want options, I want to choose my engine.

If the performance is there people will buy it.

I'm open to the mid engine six, but like I said the perfomance had better go up, not back.

With the base coupe already at 436 HP, 4 sec 0-60, 12 second 1/4 mile and 190 MPH top speed, they have a lot of work to improve performance.

Stock 4.6 N* has 320 hp and the 3.6 has 304. Not too bad but I hate to see the N* go. DI with VVT, SC and about 5 liters... yea...

They tried the mid engine Vette before but handed it over to Pontiac. Remember the Fiero?

Haven't there been rumors of mid engined Corvettes for decades?

I can tell you for certain that they have tried, not just a rumor.

The C7 would have been mid engine had GM not had financial problems the past few years. It was into engineering phases when budget restrictions caused it to be moved to C8. C7 is a 4 year stop gap to allow them to develop the mid engine design.
