Default New Car, What to Buy?

I am seriously starting to look at new cars again.

The two tops on my list are the Corvette Z06 (with the Z07 package) and ZR1.

My criteria is that it has to be a true sports car and has to be incredibly fast. My budget is $150K max. What other cars should I be looking at in this price range?

ProLaser II, ProLaser III, Stalker LZ-1, LTI Marksman & Laser Atlanta "R" (looking for an Ultralyte LRB)

Used Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale or Used Lamborghini Gallardo.

If your looking at new a Porsche 911 GT3 is always a nice choice or the GT3 RS is still under 150K

I'd say this meets your criteria.

Buy a Subaru WRX STI and build the hell out of it. You'll have the best handling car for $150k

But that's fairly unrealistic. Nissan GTR?

I'm going to look at a few different ones. I've been thinking Porsche as well as the Vettes. Nothing with a back seat though, so the Mercedes is out!

I'm probably going to go with the Vette just want to make sure I don't miss out on something I really should have looked at.

Get one of the Corvettes and then have a TVS supercharger professionally installed.... then say "good-bye" to any Porsche stupid enough to try. After having your Vette I think you're going to be disappointed with the "kick" a turbo'd car gives you no matter how quick it is. Nothing quite like spinning the tires at 60 mph (got a friend who can do that easily in Cobra Terminator with a KB blower). Bang for the buck nothing can touch a Vette given the sports car criteria you're looking for. Even the snobs on Top Gear love the Vette and they hate American cars.

That's with just 7.5lbs of boost. Take it higher and OMG.

I was thinking Z06 (7.0L) and then having Lingenfelter or Callaway do some upgrades. We are talking 650+ HP and 600+ ft-lbs of torque!!!

You're heading in the right direction there! That's RWHP too, so you're talking 750+ at the crank (maybe less, I'm not sure of the drive train losses on a Vette at those power levels). Get some engine work done and up the boost and I could see 725+ RWHP coming out of that setup. You're going to have to get some damn good tires and maybe a little extra on the suspension in order to be able to get all that power to the pavement! I know some of the best PCM calibration tuners in the industry (I used to be involved in that industry) so for about $500 extra for a dyno session you can really optimize the hardware. Friend of mine.... 650+ HP Vettes are pretty common for him to tune.

In my case, with my own tuning, long tubes and about 8lbs boost (Roushcharger has 6.5 lbs stock) I took the RWHP from about 330 to over 400. Tune alone without added boost and long tubes was a 40 RWHP gain.
