I actually like the Honda's a lot, and at one point was looking to buy a Civic. I have a preference for an efficient 4 banger. In fact, perfect for me is an efficient 4 banger that will happily do 90 MPh all day long. I definately do see your tendancy toward Honda. They have a great rep and have been on my short list for a while.

I also like the Mazda3, but the price is a little high for me at this point. In fact, I'm learning that even the 8K that it would take to get me into a decent Cobalt might be more than I am able to finance at this point. I'm having problems because I am upside down on my trade in, and I own a small business. I don't have a regular paycheck or W2 to show the bank, even though I easily am able to pay.

I'm starting to realize that this may be why so many of the small business owners I know have a tendancy to save up and pay cash. I have a few more avenues to try for financing, but It's looking like I may have to sit tight and try not to spend ALL of my income on fixing that POS Toyota for a while.

That's probably exactly what I'm going to do. I'm going to make one more attempt to finance the Cobalt tomorrow (jumping through hoops for the bank/dealer). If that doesn't work out, I'll put my CMs back on it and go from there.

Thanks for your thoughts on all this. It's a welcome help.

    Update.

If I was not a believer in miracles, today would have changed my mind. I finally did get to trade in my Celica and take home the Cobalt that I wanted. I was convinced that this wasn't in the cards, but low and behold, here it is. Best of all, I got a much better interest rate than expected so my payment went down. I'm planning on continuing to pay the same amount, so that this get paid off early. This loan will end differently than the last one.

I have already begun to decide where the CMs are going to go, though I still haven't figured out how to get to the fuse box. For now, The RD, Cheetah C50, and TomTom GPS are it. The GPS and RD will be hardwired, and mounted at the top of windshield. I am considering mounting the TPAS on the side of the console with velcro (if it will stick). I will probably mount the antenna up top also.

I am making a switch panel that will probably go under the dash, and wire everything through that. This should much cleaner than the last install. I am even thinking about connecting the Blinders to it, and maybe adding a normally closed button somewhere to act as a kill switch.

Eventually, I will get the CB installed on this car too. I truely have no idea how much of an issue I will find with RF.

NOTE: If you live in FL and find a red Celica that needs a paint job for sale, be sure to pass it up. It has problems ;-)

    Did someone say civic?

If you're gonna stay down south, I'd recommend a Civic SI. Its one of the only complaints I have about mine, not enough power when its not only me in the car. When I'm alone, it'll hold its weight pretty well though. I get 31 mpg holding 80-85 mph highway. The highest I ever got was 38 going 75 mph. (I couldn't go below that, its THAT hard for me to not speed on highways) I'm sure if I actually used cruise control at 55 or 60, I could get 40+ with ease.

If you think you're gonna move anywhere above Missouri, look at Subaru. I wish I waited till I had a little more to get a WRX. These Chicago winters are killin' me.

I used a Cobalt SS as a pretty hardcore rabbit yesterday. Guy was swerving around at 115+ with potential icing on the roads. Balls of steel or brains of mush, either or. Good car either way, Very impressed.

Great rabbit. That situation sounds very scary to me though.

Yeah I was a bit worried for him, but hey, not my problem and I appreciate his help. I got in a good distance behind him and just set the cruise up near there. There wasn't much traffic, he was just exaggerating his passes around people for some reason. New driver, new girl in the car? I managed to stay in one lane.

Actually, it works out good. If he were to go off the road, you would know he had hit ice. Who says rabbits are just for ticket avoidance, thay can be used for safety also. ;-)
