    Default Trunk leaks

I overstuffed the trunk in my Civic when driving from CA to UT awhile back. I noticed on the right side that it now does not seat all the way - a half inch up. When I drive through the car wash, I get water in the trunk. Not clear how to fix this. The mount arms look fine. I'm not sure that Honda will fix this under warranty... anyone out there know how to make the adjustment. I have no clue.

I don't think that's the problem. It sounds like he forced the hinges out of alignment.

I'd probably take it to a body shop for a free estimate first. If it could be fixed by just loosening it up and adjusting it should be pretty cheap. Hopefully you didn't bend anything.

If you want to tackle it yourself, you can get short term access to your car's shop manual through alldatadiy.com. It should cover how to adjust the hinges and how to check for proper alignment.

Yeah, this isn't about weather stripping. The mounting brackets look fine. Maybe a shop can tweak it in 15 minutes.... I'll try that tomorrow...

Just say you noticed water after washing it. I would not admit anything and see what they say. If they say it's not covered you can then shop around the fix if needed.

Well, the weather finally cooperated long enough so that I could mess with it under sunlight. Turns out one of the trunk torsion rods was pushed out of its socket by over-stuffing the trunk. This held the trunk from closing fully on one side. Using a pair of pliers and popping it back into the slot got the thing back to normal. I guess a mechanic at Honda would of done the same thing in 10 seconds - had I bothered to go down there.
