Ford desperatly trying to prove it's new PIs
They are putting out some vids of the new PIs trying to say how they are awesome... a few biased tests..... (Comparing a AWD vs 2wd SUV in soft sand, WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN!?)
Linky: http://www.youtube.com/user/FordInte.../6/VbwRUvD3x2U
I think its going fall flat on its face because of cost because of repairs and maintenance....
It may handle awesome, but I know there are a lot of departments who don't want AWD or FWD because then you have to retrain.... so the Caprice PPV coming out will fill the bill....
If only they threw that new 5.0 V8 and 6 speed tranny in the current p71, it would be done......
What do you guys think?

Re: Ford desperatly trying to prove it's new PIs
It won't necessarily fail but it certainly won't match the success of the CV. No matter how you try to sell it, a Taurus is a Taurus. They'll probably sell a few cold weather departments on the AWD, but PD's are one of the few places that haven't bought the BS FWD propaganda and realize RWD is where it's at. I think Ford has done a lot of good stuff lately, but they need to step up to the plate and build a another RWD platform. I'm a little annoyed since I now have to memorize a ton of new silhouettes, Chargers, 500's, Fusions, Caprice, etc.

Re: Ford desperatly trying to prove it's new PIs
As far as I'm concerned, Ford waited too long between the announcement of the discontinuation of the CVPI and the announcement of the Taurus/Police Interceptor. There was a year or two in between there and I really think that gave major police departments the time to begin reviewing other options. The amount of chargers being purchased and put on the road has been higher in the past year or so from what I observe solely for that reason.
There's a lot of options coming 2012 and I really don't know which way things will turn. I think the charger will continue to have success and the tahoe will get it's spot too...as far as the chevy caprice and the new ford though, I'm really not sure. One good move that Ford did make though was that they created both the sedan version and the SUV version of this new police interceptor...that way departments that need both a sedan and SUV option can stay with one company, one contract, one repair company.
I tell things how they are from my own opinion.

Re: Ford desperatly trying to prove it's new PIs
My biggest worry really is just learning all their silhouettes and lighting schemes. I am honestly all for officers getting some AWD vehicles for the winters around here... its safer for them and the public.

Re: Ford desperatly trying to prove it's new PIs
The best police car was the 1996 body style of the Chevy caprice classic. It was by far the safest police car and with the true police package...fast as hell....
I have been in 2 serious crashes driving crown vics. So many FOP unions had law suites against Ford because there cars would catch on fire and kill the drivers when involved in accidents.
The biggest problem with todays cars.. they are to efing small. most of these cars could not transport most of the criminals. They are physically two big to get into the tiny ass car. I mean WTF ..
Not to mention the cars are just to unstable at high speeds. Sure it can go fast. Any idiot can put a big motor and make the car go fast. They need it to do it safely.
We never had this problem with Chevy.
We have been down the road several times with front wheel drive cars. No matter what you say they can do they cant do. They cant handle the heat from heavy braking from a chase or just trying to get to what ever the emergency is.
I can not think of anything more scary then driving a Dodge Charger or any other car like it at high speeds. (140 plus)
On the midnight shift speeds in this area were a common in the DC area. I can imagine even greater when you are in a less populated area.

Dang, I wish you guys were the purchasing agents for my old department! You know what you're talking about.
I've got the opposite problem as Jstglockem. If the CVPI has manual seats, I can barely see over the dash without a cushion. Especially if the seat was broken in by a fat arse, and the springs are flat. For that and many other reasons, I prefer the Impala.
