    Default TPMS (update)

A long time ago, I wrote about my difficulties with my TPMS system acting goofy in my Mazda6... http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...ml?pagenumber=

I "disabled" it by unplugging the computer and putting a piece of electrical tape behind the gauge face. I guess I wasn't the only one with a problem because I just got a recall notice that says there's a software update available to fix it. Now that there's actually a recall, I believe that I have to get it done because if I get in a wreck caused by a loss of tire pressure, I'd be in trouble.

Considering that people have been driving cars without TPMS for decades and haven't been getting into wrecks (except for idiots who never check their tire pressure), I don't think you should have to worry too much about it. But if it's covered under a recall and costs you nothing, might as well get it fixed.

My car doesn't have TPMS and I know how to check the pressure the old fashioned way, thank you very much.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Not precisely what I meant... I was under the impression that if there's a recall out for your vehicle, you fail to have it done, and something untoward happens because of your failure to have the work performed, you can get in trouble. I'd have to do more research to verify this.

When my TPMS system sees a pressure below 5 psi it limits the top speed to 55 MPH. I'm sure this is due to the fact that Corvettes come with runflat tires that are rated for a max speed of 55 with 0 pressure. Not that you want to drive 55 with no air in a runflat tire, it sounds terrible and handles worse. It will however let you limp to the next exit and call roadside assistance.
