Honda has been a choice of cars among young people for several years. They get great gas mileage and extremely reliable. That being said I have been on dozens of dozens of accidents where the driver was indeed driving a Honda. In so many instances had the driver been driving a safer car that could absorb the impact rather then the occupants absorbing the impact, I would not have had to tell the parents that their son/daughter died as a result of a MVA.
My Acura saved my ass, 75+ into the dead end of a guardrail and a few flips later I landed right side up and only had to spend a couple days in the hospital so they could keep an eye on me and nothing broken. In my experience hondas are very safe cars.
in my current acura, Ive driven 1,100+ miles in about 13 hours averaging 80-85 with spurts up to the speeds you talk of OP and I still got 28-30 mpg, one passenger and trunk full of gear, ac on. If you want cheap thats reliable, honda/acura would be a good choice, but they arnt fast, just quick.
