LOL yea he helped as well, but having the very minor injuries I had, i say the car did a lot of the work. It was a 95 GSR, and I was wearing a seat belt with air bag deployment.
As for Honda vs. Acura, eh, If you compare the most basic unequipped honda vs an average Acura, I guess so, but now most Hondas have the same safety stuff as Acuras, it was mainly the older ones that had less safety features.
Hey Freebird, good to see that you are still posting in these forums even in the wake of my log absence.
Actually my gf told me to go faster while driving in Tallahassee yesterday. I couldn't believe it either.
@OP: As for a good, cheap, fast car with good gas mileage. A manual Civic may be a good choice. More gears means lower rpm's at higher speeds. What is your price range?
When he posted this thread he was looking for a used car off of craigs list.
Those of you that are saying "new Honda's " are better then the old ones. (remember he is buying something used, not a new Honda) IMO- new ones aren't much better. Or should I say " this would not be my first choice for a car to buy"
Those of you who walked away or sat in a hospital, I am glad that you are alive and still around to talk about this issue.
Airbags are one of the best inventions known to this day. Side airbags are like the Bentley of airbags. No airbag in the world is going to save your insides from the G's that are going through your body. The energy has to go some place right?
Its simple physics.
I am taking an educated guess with the 25 plus years of being in LE that I have been on more accident scenes. I am positive I have been on more MVA's where death resulted then all of you put together.
The most undeniable factor that all of these accidents share- Death or serious injury was statistically much higher when driving a small car.
Do you really think that a Honda can match an SUV in a collision? (since that is what most drive today) I mean really ---do you not watch the news when one of the cars hits an object and you actually have no idea what kind of car it was, let alone what the model was?
Why do you think as soon as an insurance company hears a young adult is driving a Honda or any other car that is similar, that is cheap in price but makes up for it with speed charges them a fortune for insurance?
I am guessing if an when you have kids you are going to make sure what ever they want won't mean a hell of beans compared to what they are going to get.
My son is 18 and drives a car that is safe and slow. His insurance is still $2100 a year on a $8000 car. Thank GOD he does not want to be a cop and drives on the road like a mature young adult.
I respect your opinion either way.

Is this about small cars in general or just Hondas? I'm genuinely curious, because you've been in law enforcement longer than I've been alive. Every manufacturer I can think of has produced small cars, although maybe not as many as Honda and without the same popularity in the American market. Are there any small cars from any manufacturer you've seen that do well in crashes with larger vehicles?
In any case, I would invite the OP to honestly consider the risks and what he's comfortable with. Consider that you're looking for a vehicle primarily for highway travel. On the highway, everyone is going the same direction, so you're unlikely to hit another vehicle head on or get t-boned. I would argue that safety on the highway is determined more by visibility (the vehicle's size and color) and it's ability to avoid accidents with superior handling and braking. I've driven regular cars and SUV's on the highway, and the SUV's scared me a lot more; I knew they'd be better in a crash, but I was much more afraid of a crash actually occurring.
I'll make a reference to all small cars and no offense to anyone, the more metal you have around you, the better your odds are in surviving. I've seen more than my fair share of wrecks too and the little cars ALWAYS fare worse.
