    Default Car starting issues

Need any input on what may be causing my truck to not start.

2001 Nissan Frontier wont start, but starts up right away when jumped. Battery is 2 years old and tested good, alternator sends back 14.6v to battery so that tested good too. Whether its been driven 10 minutes or an hour, it wont start even right away. Clicking noise is present when turning key. O'reillys said it could be starter? I'm skeptical because it doesnt hesitate at all when its got a second battery hooked up. Don't think theres any current leaks and no lights/accessories left on when truck is off.

The vehicle needs AMPERAGE to turn that starter motor. The fact that your hearing only clicking means its starving for power. Start with the obvious. Take the batt terminals off and CLEAN them There should be none of that white powder (corrosion). Start the car with a digital voltmeter across that battery terminals and start turning on accessories such as blower motor and headlights. Voltage will fall as the alternator attempts to keep up with the load but it should still be in the mid 13s. Falling below while UNDER LOAD means worn alternator brushes or the rectifier bridge in the alternator is weak. If it checks out than its time for another battery.

Its possible to have a "dead spot' on the starter. Nothing happens but it will kick over if someone hangs on the key and someone else bumps the starter with a hammer. I doubt that only because you said it will start with a jump.

Jumping another battery can add a bit more juice to cause the starter contacts to arc over and start flowing current. It's very possible it's the starter.

If you aren't sure of how to check it, I wouldn't be asking a parts counter advice...
