I bought my Bird new in 2002 and I have not looked forward to the time of buying new tires. I'm not complaining, because I knew that buying what I was buying, I can't complain when it comes time to replace certain things. A couple years ago I had checked on the prices of the tires and they were around $150 per tire - just for the tire. Only Goodyear made that size at the time.
Now it's time. I checked Costco and Sam's after other local stores including Sears. Costco has the cheapest at a total price of $103 per tire out the door. And these are the BFGoodrich Traction T/A 235/55R16 96T. 70,000 treadwear. Out the door cost includes Mounting, lifetime balancing, lifetime rotation, lifetime flat repair, lifetime air pressure checks, new rubber valve stem, and road hazard warranty for 60 months or 2/32nd inch tread, whichever comes first.
The next best price was Sam's for the same tire, and then it was Martin Tire who was going to sell me a MasterCraft (?) tire, which I had never heard of before for about $112 per tire out the door price for 50,000 treadwear, 40,000 road hazard, lifetime rotation and balance.
So if you're in the market for some tires and aren't going for something exotic, be sure to check out these clubs too. I'm not saying Costco will be cheaper over Sam's, but check both out. I've got membership at both just so I can take advantage of which ever one has the best prices on anything from gas to food.
My New Year's resolution for this year was to replace my battery, tires, and brakes this year on the Bird. All that's left is the brakes. I'm a firm believer in replacing things at my convenience before I have to at my inconvenience.
