^ Baltimore's a "no stop on Red."

But Philly is a "jump Green" area.

Yeah, you can imagine if those two ever got together......

For me, the best part about the GPS Mirror is knowing when such an intersection is coming up.

That way, I can adjust my own driving practices so that *_I_* can be safe.

If the guy behind me is following too close, and I can move out of his way, that's fine by me. If I need to tap my brakes a couple of times to signal potential intent, that's fine, too. If I need to speed up and eat the ticket - but to avoid potential injury from collision - I'll do that, too.

Green Monkey - do you happen to know where those RLC's were? I've been in Miami for a while and don't recall hearing about this. Interesting timing as I looked into this.... there was a local news report the other night that mentioned some cities like Miramar and Aventura (both in S. Fl) were installing RLC's.

No, I can't even remember who told me that little nugget--someone who has been here a while who seemed reliable. I made a point to ask a bunch of long-time locals all about speed enforcement when I moved down here. It took me a while to finally believe what a wonderland of scofflawism we've got going down here with regard to speeding.

I also learned from a girl who worked for the tolls in some capacity (don't recall exactly what she did) that blazing through the SunPass lane where you get the different beep makes no difference in any regard, even if you think you're getting your picture taken. She also told me that if there's even the slightest amount of question over even a single character on your plate and you go through the SunPass without a transponder, they won't ticket you because the possibility of being wrong is too much of a hassle for them to deal with. Shockingly reasonable policy.

They don't ticket people for speeding through the SunPass lanes (at least not without an actual cop doing the enforcement), nor will they ticket you after the fact when you hit two tolls in a shorter amount of time than you should have. When I was on my way home with my new car (bought it in NJ--Newark to Kendall in 18:26 with 60 MPH fog all through GA) and no plates or Sunpass yet, I got a compliment on my time from the toll booth operator impressed with my efficient progress at the end of the ticketed portion of the turnpike.

Check your local papers, via an online search.

That might prove fruitful.

It's how I scored the latest confirmed camera locations (including selective enforcement orientation, etc.) for allyoops, back when I got my Cheetah GPS-Mirror.

If you don't see a recent article (at the time I sent my sighting into allyoops, the article was barely a month old), try writing-in to your local papers. They may even do a feature/column on these devices, and figure out the locations and their updates for you.

My sighted article was a "reader question/answer" spawn.

TSI+WRX, good call on the newspaper idea... as I indicated above, there's already a buzz.

doesn't the escort 9500 negate the cheetah seeing as it has the red light camera feature as well as gps memorization?

I guess it would - but don't know too much about that feature in the 9500. I think that they may even use the same Trinity dbase. I have the older 8500. Perhaps allyoops can chime in....

In no way, shape or form. One of the reasons why we were happy to supply Escort with camera data is that we are not in direct competion with them. We're not fighting over the same customers. Our products are aimed at slightly different market sectors.

We provide the Trinity data to Escort but the two products actually work very differently. The Escorts are fantastic radar detectors but we definitely have the edge on GPS detection because our products are designed as GPS detectors from the ground up, not an add-on.

The main difference is the way alerts are calulated. 9500ix and ci models use a simple radius alert, in the same way as a lot of basic nav units do. This means you get alerts whenever you come within the radius of the camera, no matter what direction you're travelling. This can result in a lot of false alarms in cities. For example, a camera could be monitoring a northbound approach and you could get the alert even if you're going west and you're a block away, nowhere near the camera.

Cheetah detectors like the GPS mirror and the new C100, use a linear vectored approach method, which has a lot of advantages. It means far fewer false GPS alarms because you're not being alerted to cameras that are a block to the side or covering the wrong direction. They only alert to cameras that are a threat in your direction of travel.

If different approaches have different speed limits, Cheetah's can tell you that, and if you are going to quickly.

If we know that an approach is not monitored we can shut down the alert to prevent the detector from giving out unnecessary alerts. For example if the camera covers North/south and you're going East/West, you get no alert.

If it's genuinely a bad intersection that you need to beware off, we can give a different "accident blackspot" alert on the non-enforced approaches.

Our products are also less expensive, include a lifetime database subscription built into the cost of the product so there are no further download fees. The update software is very easy to use.

If you have an existing radar detector that you know and love and don't want to change (hey there V1 users?) our product fills in the gaps in your defence. If you want to, you always have the option of integrating to benefit from false alarm suppression at low speeds, but you can just as easily run it as a stand-alone product.

Cheetah detectors will also appeal to people who would not even consider buying a radar detector. It's also why authorities regard them as good for road safety but still view radar detectors as "outlaw" devices.

In the same way that there is plenty of room in the market for lots of radar detectors, there's more than enough room for different GPS detection solutions.

Hope that helps.
