C100 ?

If I stick a magnet under the unit, will it affect it's performance? Just worried if the magnet will interfere with it's electronics. Reason for it is that, I don't have the windshield mount and actually prefer using the magnet to hold it on the dash or steering column.

C100 comes with a dash mat that will keep the detector on your dashboard, rather than a magnet.

C50 comes with exactly the kind of magnet you describe as standard, plus it's a newer unit, with much more features and much less expensive. It's a better detector to go with.

Yes, It could interfere with the wireless receiver that is built into the C100, for receiving the wireless transmissions from a Cheetah Radar Detector Interface or a laser jammer interface" onclick="replacer_hook(35)" target="_blank" href="http://www.radardetector.net/cheetahlaser">Cheetah Laser Jammer Interface.

In other words, it could interfere with how the C100 relays the radar or jammer alerts from compatible radar detectors or laser jammers.

So if you are using the C100 as part of a complete system , interfaced with detectors and / or jammers do not use a magnet to mount the C100.
