Re: New ZR4: Install Pictures, Highway Tales, and Questions
Finally, an update.
I considered returning the ZR4 after the GOL results were released, but have decided to keep it. I don't know that the 30-day money back thing applies to the ZR4, so I may not have been able to anyway, but I continue to have acceptable results with it in the real world. I am looking into renting a lidar gun from a member here, so I can do a little testing myself for peace of mind. Any suggestions on which gun to get? I'm thinking Stalker but I don't know if its reputation as most difficult to jam translates to the best choice for what I'm looking to do.
The bumper was too slanted to use the provided brackets to mount, so I ended up cutting out a section of the grill and installing the heads there. I painted the chrome portion with a flat black Krylon, which I think looks better than it did before. I'm ordering a can of Veil tonight, and Mem-tek I promise to take night shots soon.
I think I saw a TruSpeed near downtown Cincy on 71, cop (State Trooper) was shooting on the right hand side and I was in the far left lane, all I saw was a blue case. Any other gun out there that has an all blue case? It looked to be a shade darker than the blue I've seen in pictures, but I haven't seen pictures of anything else with an all blue case like that. He unfortunately didn't target me, so I can't speak to the ZR4s performance. I will admit to circling back around and coming through the area again at about 25 over PSL, attempting to potentially sacrifice myself for the betterment of the community, but he had a customer by then.
Re: New ZR4: Install Pictures, Highway Tales, and Questions
As promised, a rear night shot.
Better than I expected. I'll obviously cover the reflecting areas well, and will probably put some on the other taillight area even though it's not reflecting much in the picture. The blue on the bottom of the plate (haven't moved it yet) is the rear ZR4 head reflecting. Kinda neat.

Research what guns are used in your area then if you can rent that, I would, as for the Truspeed the CFL group is having a test soon and Cliff has the Truspeed coming.

Here is an enhanced version of your photo:
Wow! Your car is pretty stealthy from the rear. Veil out those built-in corner-cube reflectors on the end taillights, the center tail light, and the vehicle logo, and you should be rather well protected!

Thanks for the enhancement! Yeah the rear turned out to be alright. It'd be nice to actually be targeted from the rear by something other than Infiniti cruise control.
Re: New ZR4: Install Pictures, Highway Tales, and Questions
Yikes! Thanks for the TruSpeed sighting!!!!
---
I honestly think that your eyes were accurate - that you did spot a true TruSpeed.
Ohio was rumored to be among the states that put in for the first bids, and given our enforcers' love of LIDAR, it's not at all unlikely that any new piece of equipment would have been fast unboxed, and pressed into action.
Certainly, I think that the "black" of the other LTI guns, as well as even the Laser Atlanta "S," could pick up some surrounding/environmental hues and have, combined with lighting conditions, appeared more bluish (heck, I'm looking out of my house's back window, now, and my garage looks blue!), but I truly trust your sighting.
Yes, the Laser Atlanta "S" variant's physical shape is even - well, if you squinted really hard, with only one eye open, sideways - kinda like that of the TruSpeed's.
^ That's why I honestly think what you saw was real.
And thanks, fellow Buckeye, for the warning!

As to the rental.....
Well, the Stalker should be your "worst case" scenario, given the ZR4's observed performance via all the different independent hobbyist testing.
But what I worry about is whether if the ZR4's performance would be just so bad against the LZ-1 that you won't be able to "optimize."
I dunno......

With the ZR4, head placement and head leveling is everything when dealing with the Stalker. Never let the front ZR4 heads tilt up. The front heads must be mounted within a range of tilted upward 1 degree to to tilted downward by up to 2 degrees. You can't let the front heads tilt up more than 1 degree since the LEDs, mounted further back atop the circuit board, will then be slightly shadowed by the circuit board. Mounting the heads dead level of course is ideal.

Sounds like you are in denial my friend, LOL. Truspeeds are in operation, CT is using them as we speak, I posted an article with a cop holding the Truspeed and that was a few weeks ago. To further this point Cliff is taking delivery in the next few days.
I was in CT the other day hunting down the Truspeed, not only did I not see one Truspeed, I didn't even see a cop, LOL.
Re: New ZR4: Install Pictures, Highway Tales, and Questions
^ Yep, I keep hoping that Ohio won't see the TruSpeed just yet, but based on how fast the roll-out happened in CT, and this latest sighting from John, I think it's reasonable to say that I'm glad I don't do much highway travel, any more.
I knew from the beginning that Ohio was among the lead states, but I never dreamed that it would happen, so fast.

Re: New ZR4: Install Pictures, Highway Tales, and Questions
^^ Happya$$ keeps telling me that Ohio is deadly with all of their laser guns. I guess Ohio tries every laser gun they can get their hands on, maybe trying to find what laser guns are the quickest and most reliable to use in order to rake in the most speeding fines per hour? Revenue, revenue, yum yum yum.
