Everyone in my city uses a Cobra. It's annoying. My detector won't stop picking up the Cobras.

Ha, if you're not happy with your Pro-78 then you're really not going to be happy with your Cobra XRS-9xxx!

I'm not saying that the Pro-78 is good for everyone but if it leaves you wanting more, then you need to start looking at the top dogs, the high end Vectors, RX65, 8500 x50, V1, 9500i, STi, etc. The Whistler flagship products are only second to those big dogs IMO.

Hmm.. It's so tempting to buy a Cobra on Amazon because of the price. $100 for the 9930. And the brand new 9950 is $145. I had an Escort 8500 x50 blue led, got it for christmas but it was stolen the very first night! (never again will I leave a radar detector in my car at night).. And since then, I haven't really attempted in buying another.. Mainly because of how I spend the money else where..

But I do work at Radio Shack.. And they love to sell Cobras..

So what do you guys think?

Cobra RDs are all but dead when it comes to detecting 35.5 Ka band radar. 35.5 Ka is the second most popular Ka radar frequency. More disconcerting is that the Cobra 9930 performs very poorly on K band radar -- far worse than even the less expensive Whistler models. Your $100 to $145 would be far better spent on a Whistler XTR-690 or Pro78.

Xtr-690 not Xrs-690, might be misleading.

Cobra will come out w/ a new model, but it won't detect radar. but it will do everything else and it will come w/ a 500$ price tag and a speeding ticket.

Hi rednecksson998,

Welcome to the forum!

Your old Cobra Trapshooter Micro only detects X and K band, but doesn't detect Ka band or laser. It was manufactured back in the mid to late 1980s. I'm pretty sure that I have the manual for it. I could dig around for it and scan it for you.
