That RD won't help you much at all. It doesn't detect laser or Ka, which is probably 80% of what you'll be up against. What you need is the Bel STi, because it detects all radar bands that you'll be up against and it is not detectable by Spectre(radar detector detector) that OPP uses. As far as laser goes, you need a laser jammer to properly deal with that threat. Using that Cobra is like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

hold on this guy has an 80's radar detector that detects only x and k band and lives in canada where there illegal and laser and ka is really the only thing used. He must of gotten scammed or something, thats rediculous. Deffinatly buy the Beltronics STI Detector. You probably won't even pick up a real leo k band radar except maybe at 100 feet.

I still see a lot of K-band in Ontario. The lidar use on highways has fallen off sharply. Other than the fact that it's probably detectable and won't detect Ka, his worst problem might be that a LEO using Spectre could think he's throwing it to them instead of his "real" detector. But I agree -- needs an STi (and no, I won't trade with him).

I own a Cobra 12 band XRS 797, After reading the post in this section, you guys have me rethinking my decision to buy a Cobra. My unit seems to work well but it will pick up those laser operated doors that open automatically. I can live with that. I recently drove to Louisiana and the Cobra picked up on several troopers but I passed some that did not set the unit off, they were on the move and were in the other lane on the opposite side of the road. I just thought they did not have the radar units on.

'm sorry to tell you Mr. Lawrence but all Cobras are blind on 35.5 Ka which is the #2 radar gun used in the U.S. There is tests to back this up And they Leak Constant Ka to all other RD manufactures. Whistler has 3 Filter modes just to filter out Cobras. Ask anyone on this forum what there opinion is on a Cobra. There is not 1 good cobra out there i would trust.
