Default Detection of my Cobra XRS

I don't know why there's a lot of bad criticism on the Cobra detectors. I did a few research before I made my mind on the Cobra. It all come down to the STi, V1 and XRS. They all have 5 star ratings.

I witness my detector pick up at least 1/4 mile away with Kband and I did saw the cruiser come by toward me a few times. What annoys me is that the detector doesn't turn on once in a while even when I power cycle the device. Check the fuse but nothing is broke.

I am wondering, if the cruiser is coming from the left or right, will the detector suppose to pick up the signal?

There is a lot of bad criticism on crapras because they are crap. they emit KA frequency themselves. if you look at erickonphoenix's youtube vids, he will show ya. ;D

what do you mean if the cruiser is coming from the left or right? because as far as I know if they are close to perpendicular to your car the speed reading they received is screwed up (close to 0). I might be wrong but I learned that from da forums. ;D

as far as picking up the signals I would suggest checking GOL's website for off-axis detection and stuff like that...

    good luck.

You might get some saves from K and X but for Ka, you should just stick that junk up in your ass. I would if the Cops in your County using Ka.

If you bought it less than 30 days, I suggest you look into Whistler, Bel, Escort or V1 so you can take that product back. Not to discourage you but your really buying something that is nothing or something that was built in the 80s (Not literally) that your using.

I'm wondering how you researched a V1 and an STI and picked a Cobra?

He said they all had 5 star ratings! They must all be just as good as each other! Translation: Not much research.

    Cobra's won't. V1 or Escort will.
Trust me. I had a Cobra...cost me close to $200. Thought I was top of the line. When I bought the V1, I could not believe the range difference and quality in manufacturing. 1/4 mile K band is nothing. Especially if you're traveling on the highway. Most people here get 1-2 miles K band. My record is about 4-5 miles with K and 2.5 miles with Ka...Others here have even greater distances with Ka...you will never see that on a Cobra.

Cobra usually gets a lot of their ratings because they integrate a lot of fancy features to make it look nice. Compass, Spectre, VG2, etc... After I ditched the Cobra and bought the V1, I drummed up a mirror from an Olds Intrigue with a built in compass to put in my Impala.

If you'd rather buy in a store than ordering online, go get an Escort at Crap Buy (best buy). You will be amazed at the difference. Just don't try to talk to any of their so-called "salespeople" about radar. Read up on stuff here. Ask questions if you have any. You'll learn more.

Trust me, you WILL notice a difference.

Just out of curiosity, where did you find these 5 star ratings?

1/4 mile K-band pickup is dangerously low; that's within clocking distance if the terrain permits.

A V1 on normal terrain will give you at least 2 or 3 miles, and even in the worst case terrain (i.e. over a steep grade you can't see past) give you at least a mile.

The XRS cannot compare with V1/STi's performance at all: http://www.guysoflidar.com/august-20...ctor-test.html

If you want to critically compare the XRS, that would be with the Whistler Pro-73, with which the XRS still ultimately, in my opinion, loses to.
