Freaking cobras
This morning I was leaving my neighborhood to get some breakfeast, and the PSL is 25, everyone does about 35-45 though and I was doing about 47 but as I was about to go through the entrance to my neighborhood I get a weak Ka alert so I'm thinking there's a cop coming into the neighborhood because it's happened before and just as I get passed this car parked on the side of the road the alert stops. So I'm like wait a sec...then I back up and what do you know, it's a damn cobra pointed up towards the sky. One of the ESD models I belive.

I swear those Cobra manuals tell their owner's to point them up towards the sky. It's just amazing how many people point them up! Or can I assume that so many people can't think...

Saw one the other day perfectly mounted high next to the RVM, hardwired too.
My friend has a Cobra, I can park next to him, nothing happens with either of my detectors. An I see so many Cobra's, but never a alert.
A trip once I was getting a weak alert, it stopped and started again, then stopped and so on. Drove me nuts, I swear it was another RD user but could not confirm which car it was from. Wish I had the arrows then.

I think people have them mounted so jacked up because you cannot adjust the bracket without bending it. There aren't three spaces like Belscort models or fifteen like V1. You're required to actually bend the metal bracket to get it right, which is a major pain in the a$$.
On the cobra false thing - I've had it happen once, and it was J'd out. But even then, I cannot confirm that it was a cobra becaue I came around a corner and it went off Ka 1-2 bars and was instantly J'd out. I was focusing on the curve and could not look in the other two vehicles that were coming the opposite direction. But I guarantee that it was NOT a leo.
But I drive on the highway daily during the weeks and I see lots of Cobras (LOTS) but have never once gotten an alert from it - and I have POP on. I think this whole issue is blown up.

No, rest assured the Cobras can mount horizontal just jine, just users have no clue.

I wasn't implying that they could not be mounted properly, just that it is the idiocy of the users and their inability to use common sense.

I have a Cobra and have tested it against my V1 and CANNOT produce falses at any distance with it. POP on or off.
A+ to V1 for filtering too.
My Whistler 1793SE freaks out anywhere near it. My XTR-690 REV B freaked out at close distances, after REV C it also does not seem to respond except at point-blank with POP OFF, but the Whistler still freaks out at all distances with POP ON.

I got a ESD-7000. My V1 picks it up easily and constantly. It mainly gives out a X band alert. I've moved the Cobra behind the V1, then in front of it and sure as nuts, the little arrows follow it around (which is rather cute). Also, I've witnessed the V1 give out a strong Ka alert with my ESD-7000. Usually I have to start it up and soon after Ka alert. I think this particular Cobra gives out sporadic bursts that the V1 measures as Ka band. Otherwise, it's very easy to witness a constant X band alert with this Cobra.
Maybe I should make a video of this. But I assumed this all is common knowledge.

Well my Cobra is an XRS model and from what I heard the Ka harmonics are generated from the XRS in its VG2-detection mode where the oscillator sweeps and parks at a harmonic of 33.8-ish Ka, and also passes through fast enough to be elegible for POP on many detectors.
The ESD series might leak a completely different profile.
EDIT: if I set my V1 on top of my laptop I can sometimes generate a weak X-band alert. Go figure.

Probably not, the ESD series have VG2 Detection but since it costs so little they didn't include the option to turn any of it's bands off :x
