Default Cobra XRS R9G

I got to ride in a friends new Escallade. He showed me his new Radar detector. The XRS R9G, he said it had GPS and protects him from red light cameras.

We didn't come up on any radar but he did get a POP false on our short drive.

Has Cobra improved their performance on these models?

I can't say whether performance is greatly improved. I do know that the Cobra car at this year's SML had to drive up the 9 mile test course considerable distances when hit with some specific radar frequencies. So I assume that the Cobra still has a problem, sensitivity wise, against 35.5 Ka radar. On the bright side, I will say that the XRS R9G was a pretty neat looking unit and that the Cobra reps were really nice people to get to know and to talk to. I guess we will have to wait for GOL's upcoming 2008 radar detector test to see how well this new Cobra model really performs. Note that all published SML 2008 Ka band test results were for 34.7 Ka radar even though 33.8 and 35.5 radar guns were also used during the tests.

It's very doubtful that this Cobra model is any better than the other Cobras on the market. It probably uses the exact same radar antenna as the Cobra 9985 tested by GOL last year. Some of the tests show a Cobra 9930, but I believe only the 9985 was tested.

9985 is just the 9930 rebranded for Ratshack....
