    Default Cobra

I read a lot of comments on this board and others about Cobra RD - many negative, some positive.

I notice that they sell a lot of them! Seems like lots of them disappear off the shelves when students head off to college and around Christmas. Many of the big box retail stores sell them. Some retailers have them on display right next to the higher end RD. And they have one of the biggest selections of different RD models available at one time that I have ever seen. Seems like they come out with new models all the time. If nothing else, it appears that Cobra markets them well.

Some say the design on many of their newer RD is sleek and impressive. I guess.

I've only had an used a ESD 7000 that I used for a short time while deciding on a better RD. It was ok - not great but it did a decent job for me based on the way I drive and use RD. But I won't say anything too negative about Cobra because the one I used served me well. I now have two higher end RD from other manufacturers and can clearly see the differences.

I have looked at reviews of RD and most of the time it appears that Cobra comes out near the bottom in performance.

But I think that Cobra RD work - how well is another issue. I'm not an expert all I can do is read the reviews that are published.

I'd like to read some opinions from the Cobra users on here especially if you like your Cobra RD and use it.

    Thanks.

A Cobra will probably do ok in Alabama. Every time I drive in Alabama in the Gulf Shores area the leos are always running X and K band which Cobras do a decent job of detecting. I'm thinking about getting a low end Cobra so I can write a review on it on Epinions.com. I wish Cobra would step up their game in the detection department, they really do have some interesting features that might be handy. It's a shame that they seem to be content with mediocre detection.

Now is a bad time to buy a Cobra. With the digital transition they may not pick up all 15 bands without a converter box.

OK, That was a good one...

Alright, so I am currently using a V1 BUT I had previously owned a Cobra (see model in signature). In the 2 days I had it I ran by MANY cops with radar on and the Cobra would alert only within about 1/2 1/4 mile. Not even close to enough time to stand on the brakes. So I then got the Bel 955 (Which turned out to be a great middle of the road detector).

My advice to you is to stay away from Cobra and look at Valentine, Beltronics, Whistler, Escort.

no, no, no. you have it all wrong!
the number of bands the cobra will detect will eventually plummet to zero once counties complete the rebanding effort.

those of you who run scanners know what i'm talking about

Anyone have any idea why Cobra assigns different catalog number to RD sold directly compared to those sold by Wal-Mart?

I have heard that the ESD 7000 is the same as the EST 737 at Wal-Mart - same for the XRS 9840 direct and XRS 969 from Wal-Mart. Just currious.

This type of product naming is done in a lot of industries. This keeps big customers(such as Wal-Mart and Radio Shack in the case of RDs) from having to honor their price match guarantee for a lower advertised price, since technically, they are not the same product, since they have different names.

I heard he newer GPS-integrated Cobras will have a feature which guides you to the safest area of where to pull over.
