Default Veil Guy's Review of the Cobra XRS9960G/R10G

I have just completed my real-world road-test review of the latest flagship models introduced for 2009, the Cobra 9960G/9955 which shares the same platform as the new Cobra interior remotes, the R10G/R8.

Cobra XRS9960G/R10G Review for 2009 by Veil Guy

Supporting video to follow shortly. I hope all you Cobra fans, enjoy it and find it informative.

Very informative review. Cobra is definatly making progress from the looks of things. If the detector was $100 I'd consider giving it a shot.

I can think of better ways to throw my $100 away and it does not include a Cobra.

Great review. It would have been nice to do some testing of other RD units like a radar sign and see who wins or someone shooting a radar gun and comparing the detection ranges.

Its amazing how Cobra performance against Ka 35.5 (2nd most common Ka radar frequency) never seems to get mentioned in reviews.

As the Veil Guy said I'm sure that Whistler will not be happy that they are using the RSID and LSID feature. Unless, Whistler has secretly licensed this feature to Cobra.

Cobra unfortunately with their previous products has lost my respect and trust to the point that a good review here and there will not change my mind to even buy one for fun.

I await thorough and formal testing before coming to judgement, particularly when it comes to performance consistency.

EDIT: I should say, thank you Veil Guy for your informative review and the time you put into commenting about the product. That was probably the best part about this detector

    jdong,

Thanks for the thanks, conducting and writing formal reviews takes a considerable amount time...

    MEM-TEK,

About 35.5Khz Ka not being mentioned, it's because I didn't encounter it during my travel route. I know 35.5 is more common in other states, but NJ isn't one of them and PA only uses K. I've encountered 35.5 in upstate NY, but didn't quite make it that far on this one. I am continuing to drive with this unit and will be traveling to Maine and New Hampshire next week. Perhaps I will encounter some 35.5 there.

If and when I do, you'll hear about it. OK?

Being what you do...you do have access to a Ka radar gun for 35.5 for testing?

Sheesh. I wasn't trying to attack your review. Personally, I thought that you wrote a very good and thorough review. Excellent writing style too -- much better than mine. I was basically referring to other reviews and tests (in particular, SML) where for some reason (gosh, I can't for the life of me imagine possibly why ) 33.8 Ka and 35.5 Ka test results are never made public. As nice of a guy as Carl Fors is, I wish that he wouldn't bow to pressure and would instead publish his Ka 33.8 and Ka 35.5 test results. Fortunately we have GOL who tests and publishes the results for all three Ka frequencies since they don't give a crap what the RD manufacturers think.
