    Default Friend got a Cobra

Ugh, my friends just do not listen to me. I am the one of my friends that knows anything about radar and RDs. A couple of my friends said they wanted to purchase an RD and I said stay far far away from Cobra and RMR. So 2 of them tell me they got a Cobra and I asked them why. They said that it picks up like 15 bands of radar!! I'm disappointed in them.

Well Cobra unfairly drew in another ignorant user as a result of deceptive advertising. Screw Cobra.

Your 8500, with its 10 year old technology, will crush the Cobra on all of those bands but two, neither of which is actually used by the police.

But if they'd gotten an X50 from bestbuy it would be an "8 band" detector, according to their website.

According to Amazon, the Cobra XRS 9745 (one of their "15-band" models) sports the following cool features:

    System Ready Prompt
Notifies the user that the radar detector has correctly completed a self-test and is ready. Funny, my Belscorts and V1 do the same thing, but at least it's not a C:\> prompt.

    Spectre I Undetectable
Provides complete immunity to Spectre I radar detector-detectors. Oh yeah, and how many Spectre Is are in actual use in the field? Probably zero, since they've all been upgraded or tossed

    15-Band Detection
Detects 7 radar, 6 laser and 2 safety signals. Radar signals include X Band, K Band, Ka Superwide, Ku Band, VG-2, Spectre I and Spectre IV+. Laser signals include LTI 20-20, Ultra Lyte, ProLaser, ProLaser III, Stalker LIDAR and Speedlaser. Laser is laser, that's ONE band, regardless of whether it's an Ultralyte or a ProLaser III. Safety signals include Safety Alert and Strobe Alert. The thing tells you when there's an ambulance coming, for those who are blind and shouldn't be driving in the first place... and they count that as a BAND??

    Spectre Alert I/IV+

Alerts user when they are under surveillance of Spectre I/IV+ radar detector-detectors.What about Spectre II and III? And I'd love to see someone drive past a LEO equipped with any Spectre model and not get caught

    IntelliMute Pro

Relative speed sensing auto shutdown feature will render your detector undetectable by currently available radar detector-detectors. And I have a bridge to sell...

    VG-2 Undetectable
Provides complete immunity to VG-2 radar detector-detectors. Suuuure.... I should get one and test it with my VG-2

    Ultra Performance
Ultra performance digital radar-laser detector with extra detection range for advance warning. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's FUNNY!!!

    DigiView Data Display

Provides easily recognizable digital text display. Whoopee...

    POP Mode Radar Gun Detection
Detects the latest POP Mode Radar Gun (Super-fast Instant-On Mode) It can't even detect Constant On K band reliably, and you would trust this thing with POP?

UltraBright data display provides easy recognition of band detected by use of band identification icons. All 15 of them? I'd probably wrap my car around a tree squinting to read the display, so I know if it's a cop with a radar gun or an ambulance's strobes making the thing beep

    Ku Band Detection

Detects Ku Band Radar Gun currently being used in Europe. Be prepared for future introduction in the U.S. Been there, done that. Ku is about as likely to catch on as ... well, something that'll never catch on.

    LaserEye
Provides 360-degree detection of laser signals. So you'll always know when it's time to pull over.

    Voice Alert
Warns driver with specific voice annunciation of the signal being detected. Cool, now I won't have to squint at that UltraBright display to figure out which of the 15 bands I'm picking up...

    VG-2 Alert

Alerts the user when they are under surveillance of VG-2 radar detector-detectors. Of course, the VG-2 picked up my Cobra from 5 miles away...

    Strobe Alert
A Cobra exclusive, works with tens of thousands of emergency vehicles currently equipped with traffic light controlling strobe emitters. Provides advance warning of the presence and/or approach of emergency vehicles. Like I said earlier, what's the point?? If you can't see the emergency vehicle coming, you shouldn't be driving. Maybe it's intended to let you know when you're being pulled over...

    Safety Alert
Warns drivers of the presence and/or approaching emergency vehicles, railroad crossing, and road hazard locations equipped with Cobra's exclusive Safety Alert transmitters. And how many of those exclusive Safety Alert transmitters are actually in use? Anyone? Bueller?

    Auto Mute
Automatically mutes the alert tone for enhanced driver convenience. In the unlikely event that the thing actually picks up a radar signal, that is...

    IntelliMute
Relative-speed-sensing Auto Mute system that virtually elminates false alerts. But how can it tell how fast you're going? This isn't the GPS model

    IntelliShield False Signal Rejection
3-Level City Mode offers the best false signal rejection in both urban and rural areas. Well, detectors that have crappy sensitivity tend to false less

    Digital Signal Strength Meter
Provides the driver with relative proximity to the target using 5-level digital signal strength meter. Every RD has that nowadays, and most have more than 5 levels...

    SmartPower
Automatically shuts off power to the unit when ignition is turned off. So, if your car's electrical system is a bit flaky, your Cobra will shut off automatically while driving too!

    City/Highway Modes
Allows the user to select operating mode, reducing the frequency of falsing in densely polulated urban areas. By the way, the misspellings are copied verbatim

    Dim Mode
Allows the user to dim the radar detector display enhancing night driving visibility. Considering that it's mostly dim people using them

    EasySet Programming Menu

User-friendly mode selection/setting with visual guidance. I'm sure there are a lot of programmable features too. Can you turn X band off?

    Stay Set Electronic Memory

Electronically remembers radar detector settings for an indefinite period of time even with the power removed. Wowee. RDs have had this for over a decade now

    8-Point Electronic Compass

Automatically provides an accurate electronic direction heading. This might be the only useful feature on the Cobra. Assuming it works that is

Offer to go on a road trip with them, once they see their crappy RD smoked by yours they'll soon change their mind. Hopefully.

I bought a cobra back in january 2009. Biggest mistake ever. Took it off the road for a few weeks, picked up an 8500 X50, haven't looked back. Now I want to step into V1 Land, although 9500ix Land is suiting me well

My friends all got Cobras. They ask me why they shouldn't get one. I tell them all the true reasons. They shrug me off and say its bull****. I laugh. Out loud.
