Sorry, I was just tired of the "Stop the Cobra bashing!" thread.....
Actually, I used a Cobra a gazillion years ago and I recall being super impressed one day when I got a detect from a half mile away. I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
I felt the same way when I got my first car, a 1960 Chevy Impala "tuna boat" with fins. $200 for the car. Drove it when going to college for 2 years before later selling it for $50. (Actually, the car was great for dates - lots of room in the back seat)

Well, a gazillion years ago Cobra Trapshooters were actually very good RDs.
Then when Ka band came out, VR, Bel, and Escort patented all the technology needed for reliable Ka band detection and Cobra was left in the dust.
So now Cobra just uses marketing rather than competent technology to sell RDs. Cobra is the Bose of radar detectors.

LEOs don't have quotas. They're called "performance goals".
If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Yep, this is no joke. Before Ka band, my Cobra Trapshooter was the shiznit. I got great range all the time. Back then, K band was always a cop and X band was usually a false. How times have changed.
Mustang GT Convertible, 9500ci, Veil, V1 3.812 hardwired with X and K off, Laser Interceptor Quad. 9500ix confiscated by the woman and hardwired high in her car.
Older Cobra detectors were said to be good performers in their day. Does anyone who made Cobra's detectors in those days?
Also I want to point out, Cobra is not a dedicated radar detector company, it's an electronics company. VR, Escort, and Whister are dedicated radar detector companies, so they would be more focused on the performance of their detectors than Cobra would, because for the 3 aforementioned companies, radar detectors are what the company sells to stay alive. With Cobra, it is not that way. They just got lucky by having great marketing.

Upon reading the thread title I thought it was already April 1st.
I've never seen so much forum traffic in the Cobra section in months. It usually has very dated posts.....bash posts appear to be the only way to get someone in here.

^True, there has been a lot of traffic here lately. I'm waiting for Cobra to bring out a model with a new platform so I can test it. I do think Cobra will be behind for years to come since their patents have nothing to do with performance. It is fun though to see how they stack up against other detectors.
