I just recently bought a Cobra 9300, no more than a week ago. I, being completely oblivious to anything having to do with radar detectors, thought what I was spending on it was plenty and I should have been getting a pretty good detector. This purchase was pretty spontaneous, so I had no research beforehand. And after I've been reading, it doesn't seem like this thing is very favorable.
So far, it's seen every cop that's gunned me, which I suppose is a good thing. It does pick up lots of X-band radar out on the highway for no apparent reason, leaving me a bit nervous, but no big deal. There's only been cop that the detector warned me of before I actually saw it, though. I'm pretty sure most of the police were using instant-on, so my hawkeye for police has saved me more than the detector has. I do remember it picking up a sherrif whose radar was on about 10 seconds before I saw him, but that's about it as far as close calls go.
I guess what I'm getting at is this: I'm not looking for a detector that I can just put the pedal to the metal and not worry about anything unless it tells me to. I trust my eyes more than machinery. But, I am relying on this thing to let me know of speed traps and such before the police see me. That's about it. Will this piece of equipment do the job, or did I just blow my money on a beeping box that tells me what my eyes are seeing?
