Default Cobra XRS 9970G 1.8 miles aganist 33.8 KA

I used to use a V1. but it got stolen out of my truck at night, and i have been using my old 8500 x50. About 2 weeks ago i decided to try out cobras new xrs 9970g.. Last night i was driving down a two lane highway towards a small town east of okc. Out of nowhere i get a ka 33.8. I reset the trip meter and kept driving, around 1 turn and about 3 hills, finally the last hill i come over the signal pegs out and there sits a leo on the side of the road with his lights off.. i looked at the trip meter and it was 1.8! Not bad for a COBRA.

I have a 9960g and Ka detection is on par with my two S7 antenna Belscorts. I bought it mainly to tinker with the GPS but have been very impressed w/ detection. I had no idea I'd still have it on my dash 8 months later.

Let's start seeing some videos of this supposedly awesome Cobra RD in action.

The geek side of me is intrigued with these newer, top shelf cobras. Please do post vids.

The platform the newer Cobra uses does have pretty good detection for C/O ka band. Particularly 34.7 and 33.8. I covered this in my 9960G review a while back.

Yeah, that's not surprising. I have a Valentine and a Cobra 9960G, and still use my 9960 quite a bit. They're very decent radar detectors.

I've tried to run my v955 on the dash for the sake of comparison but, and you won't believe the irony, it leaks K and sets off the Cobra...

I'm not operating under the impression that the new Cobras are V1's or anything. But my 9960g seems to perform on or about the same level as my two older S7 Belscorts. Perhaps it's b/c I turn off all the superfluous crap that Cobra adds? Added bonus is the GPS function and the Ka frequency ID. Besides, it's a rare day I go more than 5 over the limit. I'm just more of a gadget freak than anything.

Before SML posted their August 2010 "results" of detector testing I remember that SML indicated that in addition to the Bel STI, Cobra had a model that was not detected by their Spectre 3. I believe it was the 9960.
