Default What do I think of the new COBRA PRO 9780?

    Hi there guys,

I'm a newbie at this site (a seasoned forumer of other sites), and I have done a quick search, and thought I would post this, as it didn't seem to located during my search, so I hope I dont offend anyone if it has, but here we go.

You may have noticed that I am an Aussie, and radar detectors are totally illegal here, so I couldnt help myself, I jumped on the USA Ebay site, and bought myself a Cobra Pro 9780

Well, this morning, I raced to the Post Office to pick up my newly arrived baby. I sat in the carpark, and flicked through the operation manual, stuck the sucker to the windscreen, and of I went, on my search for a radar trap.

To cut a short story long, I drove all around town, looking in the fave spots our Pigs setup their Radar traps.

Now, the Pigs here in OZ use a number of different methods. In the rural areas, they use the model attatched to their Squad Car, and can catch you as they are approaching you head on in the other lane.

Other times, usually in urban areas, they have the hand held gun, and the third primary method, is a Pig sitting in an Airconditioned RV with a speed camera. (Can you believe it, they have a bloody lounge chair set up in the back where they stretch out and do some reading, and probably watch DVD's and porn, anyway, getting back on track.....

So here I am, with my shiney new Cobra, desperately looking for a speed trap, and I soon got sick of it, and decided to head home.

Now during all this driving, the Cobra is blurting out alerts every 5 mins driving me mad, and within a kilometer of home there was a minor traffic jam.

Slowly as I crept forward, it ended up being one of them speed cameras in the RV like I just mentioned, everyone hits the anchors when they see these RV's, hence the gridlock.

I drove straight past the thing, and the detector didnt do a bloody thing, so, I "U" turned, drove past it again, to see what would happen, and finally, it gave me the warning, only problem is, it alerted me right when I was on it, and I was so captivated as to whether the Cobra would ring its bell, that I drove past it over the speed limit, and got my speeding photo taken, with the photoflash and the whole nine yards (which I might frame and give to my mother for Christmas or something).

So, what do I think of the Cobra Pro 9780? You can cram it up your arse.

PS It was set on Highway mode.

Not a happy camper, I can tell ya.

Dont fret about it too much, I have not heard one person from anyone around the world say they have decent performance against speed cameras, your best thing is a lic plate blocker. Everyone is peeved at those vans. But yes there are others that at least alert in the presence, but the problem is that is is very short distance. Like someone said, ebay it, or give it as a gift to a person you hate.
