This kid where i work uses a cobra, not sure what kind it is or anything
if he wasn't such a d*uchebag then id tell him he should get another one
he makes a good rabbit for the ride home anyway

Haha, gotta love having a daily rabbit. Even if he wasn't a d*uchebag, I highly doubt that you could convince him to buy anything else. Most Cobra owners just have the mentality of, "Why spend $400 for something I can get for $100?"
I had a somewhat similar experience last weekend. I met a buddy of mine to get some fishing in, and then went out for a bite to eat. I hopped into his car and seen that he had just bought an ESD model Cobra. He had it mounted level towards the bottom of his windshield, but it was in the lower driver side corner. The first thing that I said to him was that he needs to get rid of that thing. He just kind of laughed and said that he has been happy with it.
Anyhow, he is the kind that likes to get out and drive, so I believe that I will convince him on taking a road trip with my V1 for a while. That should change his thinking.

I'll admit I was once a kid and once had a cobra xrs 9430 (i think). It saved me twice from Ka, and once caught some lidar scatter (because i was way over the speed limit but there were cars around me). I was happy...but scared to get caught with it (local PD uses spectre). So i got a Bel Sti... Soon as I opened, I touched it and could feel the quality, how rugged it feels. Plus the buttons don't feel plastic cheap. I would never go back, but it was a start. It did its job. And it convinced me. I have an Sti, LPP, Veil. There's one thing I miss (which the LI offers though) - which damn laser is shooting me.
Nevertheless, that kid will likely be shot by some I.O. or laser and will curse at his RD, and will never use one again, because he did not get information and did not use a good device + correctly.
Cobra does a good job of marketing and can be found in retails stores in my area. The inexperienced person could pick one up and not know the benefits of a quality unit. V1 can only be purchased on line and Escort is online or in select specialty auto/av stores. I do see Beltronics in some big retail AV chain stores. Some research can go a long way. As for Radar Busters, makes sense to offer them but try to educate the consumer and explain why they should buy a better unit. Better for everyone in the long run toSpend a little more and buy a good unit.
My boss was telling me the other day about this great radar detector a mate of his bought for him in the US while he was there, and how since he had a new one he sold his whistler to someone else. He couldn't tell me the name of this fancy new detector so i went out to have a look at it, and you guessed it ....... it was a ****ty cobra !! With mates like that, who needs enemy's !!!
I had to tell him he sold the wrong detector, and that he needed to invest in a decent one.
