The biggest reason people hate cobras is because they leak badly on Ka band especially, which causes false Ka alerts on our detectors. That plus their performance is absymal at best, you're better off with pretty much any other brand. It doesn't help that Walmart sells the cheap ones that leak the most too, so they're everywhere.

If you care about getting the maximum warning time under most conditions for Ka the Cobra won't cut it. Have had experience were the cop was at a slight angle with front constant on Ka running and the Cobra didn't make a peep. Not the only one with this experience. People who recommend a refurbished Bel RX 65 from fleebay are giving good advice but run it in Ka USA mode. With all detectors don't let it bake in the hot sun or leave it in a hot car, will cause calibration problems.
