Don't take one example and turn it into a stereotype... not cool.
If you need help PM me.

    I am a reformed basher

"A Humble Bumble" just like the Rodolph story

lots of people and I'm not saying the last poster use this Cobra thread as just a chance to bash all Cobra users

Not the hallmark of a bad detector is it?
Except I've witnessed it alerting to itself with nothing else around to set it off several times. As for "letting her use it" that's her choice, I've offered to get her a Pro series whistler or another RD but she wants to use it because it was a gift to her, and yes she has gotten a speeding ticket while using it and it was constant on Ka that got her at that. So you can call me a basher if you want or what not, but like I've stated several times now I only post what I've personally witnessed. If you don't believe that's fine and dandy. But I'll leave your little cobra thread alone now since it seems I am "bashing" your RD.

then what good is her using a detector at all pal ?

Not my particular product loads of people use them with no tickets

what exact model is it ?

not a very good gift I fear this particular unit

sounds like it came from a grab bag !

    constant on tickets ?

    sounds broke to me

send it in and have it checked out

    Your answers really confuse me.

So her cobra falses to it's self

    all the time ?

    exactly when ?

I have never seen this in ANY detector unless possibly it's very seldom and random in this case

maybe the tuning of the filtering of the scanner is off

Never seen that either as any engineer even a cobra engineer knows how to eliminate self falsing in their own products

otherwise the returns would be enormous

a defective unit may do it

This is why GoL does RD testing. I have a tough time believing that Cobra has made any serious strides, whether that be in performance or detectability, but testing will tell the tale.

well R/R says they have and a few others too but testing them yourself is what it's all about.

and believe what you yourself see

after all your the one using it

    trust yourself

I was of the same opinion as you at one time but not anymore

also believed the whistler se models were great from all the reports till I found out otherwise

They are very spotty in performance from my own experience now

sometimes really great and often times real bad.

IMO whistler fitted a condenser lens that makes off axis reception a very hit or miss affair

this to boost their range numbers which it does

doesn't work all that well IMO in the off axis realm after using one for a while

    a detector needs both frankly

I live in a suburb so gas stations/stores etc. are at almost every corner. Today I had the detector on City x+k mode but my detector was going crazy on Ka frequency I think it was?? at 35.5 ghz or Hz, i forget. There were no cops in the area so I think it was a false alert, I don't drive on the highway at all on a daily basis, so what setting is best for me?
I leave mine on X+K in the City Mode. I also use the Intellimute Mode. (Don't use the Intellimute Pro Mode, because you will turn your receiver off when it's working right.) To set the Intellimute do this: I warm the vehicle up till the rpms drop to their lowest. Then set it while in park. If this is still too high of a rpm then I do this: while with a warmed up engine and at lowest rpm, step on brake and put it in drive while holding the brake and then set it. This will give you the lowest rpm setting available. If you set with rpms too high. It will mute too early and possibly not alert to you. As far as your Ka 35.5 alerts, it could be another detector or a cop you didn't see.

Thumbs up Re: Cobra S-XRS 9970G

Some more thoughts on my Cobra XRS9970G:

    1. Next to an airport my 9500i alerted to laser (airport). My Whistler XTR690se alerted to laser alot longer. My Cobra alerted to (airport) with POP mode like crazy not Laser. Drove by several times with only alert with POP mode no laser alerts.

    2. GPS alerts: Gotten a Caution Area alert and a Speed Trap alert. Very good and right on!

    3. Ka frequency display is accurate and works good.

    4. Range on K & Ka is great. Same as my Whistler XTR690se.

    5. Picked up lane assist with K band. Pain in the ass!

    6. Speed Alert and Speed display off between 1-3 mph. Other wise ok.

    More Later!

When I was a kid I remember I playing with my Dad's Micronta Brand (Radar Sentry) and CB Radios. I used to wonder what it was. Then I remember in 1985, I seen an Escort detector (Cincinnati Microwave) for the first time and I thought it was cool! I looked in Radio Shack catalogs (back when they were good!) for detectors and then I bought my first detector at Service Merchandise (a Fuzz Buster with 2 LEDs). I took it back and found a Cobra Trapshooter (the one that looked like an Escort) at a CB shop. I was hooked ever since. I've stayed with Cobra ever since. Until the last several years I've gotten some of each brand. There's always gonna be something you don't like and do like. If you want the best (raw sensitivity) get a V1, if you like good sensitivity with filtering and extras, Escort or Bel. If your on a low budget Whistler and Cobra are your choices. Whistler is good! (for your main necessities and a few extras. Cobra haves a lot of bells and whistles. (some unnecessary but otherwise some usefulness). It's really your choice. Enjoy your choices. Your never gonna be totally protected (especially in today's world). Speeding is crazy (5 or 10 over ok, anymore, not me, it's not worth it). I just want to be alerted to their presence. We have that right no matter what the law givers say!
