I was traveling home descending a hill that opens into a wide open field with the V1 on duty, and with the RX-65 un-plugged. Towards the very bottom of the hill, 100ft or so left, the V1 quickly ramps up on Ka. At the point the alert began I was under tree canopy cover, so this was not an instant on event. There was no LOS at that point, but I knew I was coming LOS very quickly(100ft) for any vehicle out in the area of the field.
I got on the binders and got to within 5 of the POS just as I came LOS with a local patrol I recognize, that uses Ka at 35.5. He had just arrived at the other end of the field approaching at about my speed. Matter fact, the RX-65 shows him consistently at 35.518, with at least a dozen samples, as he leaves his radar on all the time, even when parked at the police station.
So the V1 was barely up to the task with about a 1000ft range on this encounter. Not pretty, a major cause of "yellow seat syndrome".
