    Default Upcoming Radar Detector Review

    Hey guys(gals),

As discussed earlier, we are planning another real-world driving comparison with the three top detectors in their updated forms during our trip out to SML in June.

We may be successful in arranging a bright red Dodge Viper for out test vehicle or something similar. That should help draw out the attention from the LEOs we encounter. Of course, we'll have VEIL on the vehicle.

    Any suggestions are welcomed.

    Bob,

Get the encounters on Video. In fact just let your camcorder record then edit the video of the encounters. A video is MUCH better than a written review. It will also be a lot less work for you. Just write a summary and bam you are done

How do you guys effectively set-up a video camera in the car, especially like one like a VIPER, where there is no back seat and it'll probably be a little cramped. Would I have it on for the entire trip of 1000+ miles, that's a lot of tape to burn.

My wife can't make it on this trip, this time out so, unless I go cruisin' for a chick (just kidding VEIL Gal), I'll be doing this one solo. And it may be too much to handle.

I did a quick Google search and found this on the first page

    http://www.stickypod.com/

For open track use, they require hard mount plus a saftey strap, so a suction cup mount wouldn't be OK, but for normal driving, on like this should be fine. Especially since it may be a rental car.

I'd still be tempted to put a tether on it so that in a worse case scenario, it couldn't whack you in the head. For installation where there's a roll bar or harness bar, it's tough to beat the I/O Port Racing camera mount. I've got one in my track car.

    Ok guys,

I think we are in good shape. I believe we have lined up a 2005 SRT/10.

This should get the job done.

All we need to do now is line up the latest of the best!

Just as an idea, with the new "digital" memory video camcorders that use SD card memory or similar, it takes 1 second to reverse and start recording again, wiping the entire card/memory.

What i'm getting at is (and i haven't bought one myself but i am checking out which models are good), is that you could simply leave it running, and after an hour or two or whatever the limit of the memory is, and NOTHING INTERESTING HAS HAPPENED, just click a button, and start again from the beginning for another hour or two hours of recording.

The only thing you'd need is a way to power the unit, and most of these digital memry units last hours upon hours since there are no moving parts basically (no tape to drive, for example). Plus I'm pretty sure some have those in-car electrical point plugs anyway (dammit... the name escapes me what the name is.. the smoking thingy. haha).

Default The Ultimate Stealth Viper as our driver.

This is the car that we will be driving in this summer's follow-on to our popular radar detector comparison test series. It's a bit of a step-up from our previous driver!

We figure you guys and gals approve of our selection!

There's a vegas line on how many speeding tickets we are going to pick-up with this bad boy.

We'll be sure to count on the performance of the big three to help!

"Hey, officer! Pick me! Pick me!"

"Sir, I had a little trouble acquiring your speed on LIDAR. Would you care to explain?"
    "Yup. Just read my door!"

If you can't get pulled over in that then I'll never worry about my lowly Volvo again.
