Default V-1 Failed to Alarm from LTI Ultralyte

    Hello ,

my V-1 version 1.7 failed today to set of when targeted

by state trooper using Lti Ultralyte.

Of course , I learned all those details with the ticket.

The V-1 was on the dash .

The speed ticket stated 84 mph at 1041 feet.

This happened today on highway 87 north bound New York state,

    just North of Albany.

Is it normal that no alarm sounded , my car has no licence plate.

I asked the officer if he was using stealth mode on his unit ,

no , he said no such mode exits .

Anyone has an explanation why the V-1 stayed completely mute.

At this distance , the beam is 37 inches in diameter , it should

have set of the V-1...any idea that there is a new stealth mode

    from Lti .

    I am using a 1.7 also, at least I thought I was?
What kind of car do you have it might be on the worst windshield list at VR.

I believe the 1.7 version uses a different detection scheme than the 1.8. Where the 1.8 uses one sensor with a big-honkin lense, 1.7 uas a row of 6 or 8 sensor diodes with no lensing. Could this make a difference? I don't know. I have to assume that they wouldn't have made the change if it weren't as-good-as or better than the old scheme. I'm kind of surprised that it would miss a direct hit, though.

This is just a theory, but I think that very low mounting locations might be detrimental to laser sensitivity. Was it a sunny day? (I assume it was if this happened today.) If so, I have a feeling that solar glare from the hood may actually mask the light coming from the lidar gun. If the sensor is already overloaded it's going to have a hard time seeing the little light from the gun, even on a direct hit. There is a LOT of IR in bright sunlight!

On a simpler note, you said that it was directly on the dash. Are you sure that the windshield wipers weren't obscuring its vision? Or even the dash itself? Those sensor diodes are at the very bottom of the big front lense.

Maybe your laser receiver is not working. Drive up to some neon signs and see if your V1 alerts on laser. If you have any Panasonic TVs, their remote controls will usually trigger a V1. If you pull up behind a Trailblazer or Envoy SUV does it alert to its HMSL?

Maybe you should have mounted your V1 on the windshield.

I upgraded my V1.7 to 1.8 and it is noticeably more sensitive on laser now.

The best thing to do is to send it in for testing to make sure unless you have one of those osprey laser guns or know someone with a lidar gun. With no laser countermeasures and even an updated V1, you probably would have still gotten the ticket. The cost to upgrade the unit maybe a lot though. Some Veil may have reduced the targeting range enough to avoid a ticket but who knows for sure.

If I interpret the V1 upgrade page correctly, the V1.8 upgrade is $255 and it does include POP 2. Pretty good deal IMHO.

If there was traffic between his car and the laser, he might have avoided the ticket if the V1 was working properly and had the upgrade. Laser does not always acquire the speed instantly. Sometimes it could be 1 second or shorter like 1/3 second.

It's too bad they don't use laser where I live. I would have loved to go up against one with my black T/A with no front license plate! Damn I should have kept it along with the GTO!

Try the TV remote trick, I don't know how I figured that one out but it definetly makes me feel confident that my V1 is working at detecting Laser.

    I'll echo everyone else:

    1. Mount High, below tint.

    2. Use neon signs to test it out.

    Happy hunting
