Default Info on V1 software 3.818-3.819 vs. 3.821-3.824

I have some info about the V1 pop2 software. In December 2004 I had my V1 upraded for pop2 and when I received it back it came with 3.818.

A few weeks ago I experienced the J while receiving real police Ka so I called in to explain my problem. They were quit willing to admit the problem and said I can send it in to get new software version 3.819 to correct this issue.
I questioned them as to why not just give me 3.824 because that is the current software in new units now. She had explained to me that in order to get 3.824 I would have to pay $75 because there is a hardware change that goes along with 3.824 and the unit will receive a new serial number.

She said that 3.819 fixes the J problems in units that had 3.818 and 3.824 fixes the J problem in 3.821 units. She also explained that there is no need to have 3.824 unless I travel to europe but it was my choice if I wished. So my decision was 3.819 for free or 3.824 for $75.00.

I thought about it for a few days and I figured what the hell I really dont want to spend the $75 dollars but if the hardware changed there just may be some additional benefit from it. So thats what I did I went for the 3.824 for $75.00. I have the unit back for about 3 days now and I have not had the J issue block out real Ka and I also noticed that K band is much more calm while driving in town compared to when I had 3.818. So I suspect between the hardware and software change VR must have made some effort in controling K band allerts in the city while in L mode.

I thought I would let everyone know my experience. I am now happy I went for the 3.824

I bet V1 makes most of its money in upgrades. They're pretty smart.

This is why its called business. I don't know where they make their most money being upgrades or new sales, but if they didnt make it a profitable busines then they wouldnt be able to all the R&D to make their V1 better.
So for this I don't fault them. The one good part about it is the V1's hold a great resale value and are very attractive for european buyers to pay top dollar on ebay so in the end I probably saved alot money owning a V1 since 1992 vs. buying new units when new models from other manufacturers come out.

One thing I realized about the V1 was when I resorted to using my 1991 Escort DSP unit to hold me over while getting the upddate. I would get an allert on the 1991 escort DSP and you never knew where it was coming from. This is when I realized how valuable the arrows are.

    itisjustme,
thanks for the info. i didn't realize the revision change was hardware as well. i've been planning on doing the upgrade/fix i just haven't had time to ship it yet. I find it interesting that k band seems a bit different. i think i'll do my tests before i ship it, in case they do the hardware upgrade, then i have a basis for comparison.

Yup! But hey I rather pay $75 for a upgrade than sell the X50 for a $100 loss and spend another $300 on a new one.

I upgraded my 7 month old V1 and it was free. Guess they aren't making any money on me.

Does anyone know what the actual hardware difference is between the V1 v3.819 and v3.824?

Everyone keeps saying (and V1 says it too) that the 3.824 needs different hardware, and hence an extra charge, but is the antenna design different or something?
