save the $ 80 for the speeding ticket you will get if you get a detector that costs that much.

If he dosn't have to deal with 35.5 ghz Ka, a cheaper detector like the pro 58 should be fine...

Dont bother buying a detector if you are not willing to spend the right amount of loot

x2. Either spend that $80 on something else or save it for however long it takes until you can use it towards a more exspensive top of the line radar detector.

I to thought taking the $300+ to get a decent RD was way overated but take it from me that has learned it the expensive way through continuesly upgrading to different detectors. You get what you pay for. My first RD was a cheap cobra 9200 and it $ucked. Save the money and get someything that is more likely to save you and pay for itself.

do you know exactly what radar they use in South America??

exactly! what radar bands are used in your area? if they don't use Ka then you could get a super cheap RD with decent detection because even the crappy rds tend to have decent K and X detection, right?
